View Full Version : I think I give up trying to unlock my XP2000

I've tried a total of 5 seperate times. That means I have turned off my PC, taken out all the cards, take the motherboard out, remove my Alpha PAL8045 (those damn washers), and then gotton all the materials out and try about 10 times to connect the damn L1 bridges.

I have the HighSpeedPC kit and I just can't get this to work. After about an hour and a half of repeated cleaning, I finally think I got all the connects seperate. I plug everything back in, reboot, and I see a message in the bios saying "Cannot find CPU ratio! Go into CMOS and etcetcetc.." Wow! I think I finally did it! I set it to auto, reboot, and then go back into the BIOS and try changing my multiplier. Reboot.. wait...wait.. oh this is going to be great.. wait.. I can't wait to bump my FSB up..wait..wait.. no.. GOD DAMNIT!!!

I think I have come to the conclusion I can't do it. I just do not have the skills for it. My XP2000 is an AGOIA, and the chip is green, and I think the gaps are smaller (all the pics of unlocking XP2000s have brown chips with bigger gaps that cover the area between each dot, unlike the green one). What can I do? I really can't just increase my FSB without lowering my mulitplier. I HAVE to unlock this thing. How can I do it? Do I have any options here?

well I'm going to let someone else more knowledgeable help you with the unlocking question, you may want to have this thread moved to the AMD cpu section, where you'll get more specific help, but I did want to say

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!!

woah big guy, L1 bridges? hate to break your heart, but you only need to connect the 5th L3 bridge. It's easy! I can empaize with you on having to take that 8045 off. I love my Alpha, not when I have to take it off :(

um.. why does every video and set of instructions tell me I need to connect the L1 bridges then?

i thought with the xp2000/2100 you still had to do the L1's?

I kind of sucessfully unlocked my XP2000

It got to the point where I could ONLY get the 11 multipliar. After removing all the processor, I can now only get 11.5 :(

Anyways, I used the rear-window defogger kit from autozone. Worked pretty good if I hadn't had messed up.

btw, I did it by connecting the L1 bridges.

I've had nothing but problems in unlocking my XP2000 too, so don't feel too bad. Had it working at one time but for some reason, it quit and I could never get it totally unlocked again....some would work, others wouldn't.

Used the HighSpeedPC kit and have the green chip just the same. I finally just gave up and ran it on a 150MHz bus and 1.8GHz since that's about all it would do on air anyway.

not true the 5th L3 bridge is only for 2200+ and up, anything lower and you must closed all L1 bridges...:p

Yup, that's what I've heard also.
