You can only ensure that you are hearing what pitch the sound of the fan will be making. Not the amplitude (Decebels). So this site only half helps my friend :)

It won't let you be sure of ACTUAL decibel leves, just relitivly how loud they would be. If you have a HSF on there, you could just turn up the volume till the sounds were equal, then play the rest....

but pitch added with a knowledge of what dB is and how loud say a delta is will go a long way.
