I am having trouble logging into Win2k, when I login it tells me that I don't have a paging file or that it is to small. It then gives me steps to go into the Mycomputer blah, blah, to increase it. I can't even login using safe mode. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get back into this computer?

have you done any partitoning lately, that error usually occurs when Win2k has a hard time finding the boot drive...

:( Yes I have copied this from the original drive that I was using, the previous drive was an old 13gig, and this one is a new 30 gig. Is there anything i can do?

I had this problem one time when using win2k server on a raid 0+1. I forgot how I fixed it, give me a minute to find out.

EDIT: ok, well its was about 6 moths ago, so my memory is off, and I am probably not correct on what I did. But...

I think we had 4 partitions set on the raid drives C D E F.
Somehow we had paging files on all 4 drives. Each drives was set to have a 13GB (don't ask) paging file, but the problem was that drive F only had a total of 10GB. So what I did was basically set all the paging files to 0, and then on drive F I gave a paging file of 8GB. Not sure if that helps you.

If I remember right, if you set the windows paging file too big, or below recomended levels, which I think is a set % of the drive then windows will yell at you at then make the pagefile a default size (18KB or MB????)at start up just so you have enough to run windows safely.

You may want to give this a try Octoman...With only the system/boot drive in the system, or powered on, boot to a DOS or Win9x Start-up disk that contains fdisk.exe and run the following command...

FDISK /MBR

This re-writes the Master Boot Record and erases the disk signature associated with volume GUID. W2K should assign default drive letters and allow you logon. ;)
