View Full Version : viapump screwing my monitor
My Viapump is making my screen wobbly. Interfering with my monitor. Has anyone had this problem???
Is there any electric shield I can buy to wrap the pump or something? Thanks.
I had the problem at a LAN game once. It went away when I got the computer home. I have heard people recomend putting aluminum foil around the pump, but I don't think it really helps.
Your best more is to get some longer cables, and move the monitor farther away from the pump.
I have that same problem on certain screens during bootup. It's a frequency thing. Just make sure your monitor is set to 60Hz and the problem should go away.
hmm.. has anyone had this problem with maxijets before?

I think it would be a problem with any magnetic drive pump.

I have an Eheim 1250 about 6 inches from my monitor - phillips 109s - and it flickers a bit in the corner closest to the pump, but it's not bad, so I live with it or change the refresh rate I'f I'm swapping about resolutions. Moving the pump is the realistic thing to do if you can.

i'm pretty sure maxijets aren't magnetic driven (i tink)
Maxi Jets are mag drive.
Take out the impeller...hold it near the opening and it will suck that sucker back in like no tomorrow.
I don't have this problem with my Maxi-Jet...but my computer is also on the floor.

This monitor interference can be decreased to the point it is unnoticeable by putting magnetic shielding around the pump.
A tin can slid over the pump will generally do the job.
Aluminum foil will not help because aluminum is not ferromagnetic.
To determine whether a material will shield effectively, try sticking a magnet to it. If it sticks, the material will provide shielding.

my danner 350 gph does the same thing. had my computer on my desk and turned it on and monitor was all wobbly so i put the computer on the floor and problem is fixed.
:(
i think i'll forget about switching pumps.. i guess i'll stick with my 1048 :(

1048 is a mag drive also. I had that problem with my 1048 and also with my Aqua via 1300. It's nice to know your not having that problem with your 1048 though.

eheim's are magnectically driven too????????!!!!???
are you sure???????????????????

IMO, the culprit is the screen, not the pump. If your screen is not shielded properly, it will be sensible to other magnetic devices (or affect them!) such as other screens, speakers, and apparently pumps.
It is not rare to see this happen in LAN parties, where everybody have their screen close to one another. Screens with no shielding might have distorded images and off colors in some areas.
AFAIK this is not directly related to the frequency of the screen. Besides, setting your screen to 60Hz is not very comfortable to the eyes. 80Hz is a minimum, 100Hz is sweet! Anything above that is a luxury.
So, don't get a new pump: get a new screen! :D Not to mention that TFT screens are getting cheaper and cheaper. They have no cathode and are thus insensitive to such magnetic fields.

Ok~
Maxjext, Ehime's, Via's, Danners, and MOST SMALL PUMPS are MAG DRIVES!!!!
