I know you guys wont think this is much but for me its too cool!
I just started messing around with my xp 1700 fsb
just for kicks i set the multi down to 6x and the fsb to 164
turned my memtimimgs down and hit the power button.....
POST!!!!!!!!
after messing round with it a little its now @ 1640mhz! on AIR!
with a stock hsf! (17v mod on fan)
this is on a full time folder !
wonder if it will make a difference.........
points wise.......hmmmmm:cool:

Hey, every little bit of folding power counts:D

For what it's worth, FSB overclocking doesn't affect protein folding. All that matters is raw MHz, whether it is at 133 FSB or 200 FSB.
If you can get a higher (MHz) overclock, with a lower FSB and higher multiplier, go for it. It will fold proteins faster.

thats just it...........i could only get .5 multi out of leaving the fsb at 133..........this way im getting much more!
i know its the raw power that turns the folding machine its just funny it worked so good this way for me

High FSB is the key to overclocking Athlon XP :) 1640 mhz isnt bad but i bet you could go 1700 mhz. Run 1640 mhz for a day and if it's stable crank the FSB up a couple more notches.
But what cmcquistion said is right, raw mhz is what matters in folding, however higher FSB will improve your overall system performance and in games :D

I would but the fsb is maxed out............ive got some better cooling on the way so well see in a week or so if i can get more out of the multiplier side.i just find it amazing i can get more out of this chip with the fsb way up and the multiplier down. at the 133 fsb i was only able to get it to the equivilant of an 1800+(its an xp 1700+}
Nice overclock however I have one concern about your fan at 17v. You may want to get a new hsf combo because running fans at 17v is very risky, they may die at any time.
Just something to keep in mind.

yeah i know its risky running em like that ...............but each case i build usually ends up with 6-8 casefans in em even with the cpu fan unplugged all the other air ripping through the case keeps the chip from cooking and i use pc alert 4 so alarms start going off if something happens.
