I'm planning to upgrade to an AthlonXP 2000+ soon, and I've just read that the ECS K7S5A doesn't use SSE on Tbred B's so I want my XP 2000+ to be a Tbred A or palomino. How can I tell? Is there a way to look at the chip's core and tell?
I don't know, but why wouldn't a K7S5A use SSE with a B? Sounds fishy to me.:eh?:

Where did you read this? why wouldn't it use SSE on Tbred Bs if it does on Pali's and As?
Anyway, I don't think that it will be as easy as it is gonna be with the tbred As and Bs which are lower than 2000+ as the As use different voltage than the Bs and the voltage mark is labeled in the product code, both A and B 2000+ will have same stock voltage, so knowing the whole stepping will be requiered to make a call on which is A and which is B

There ya go, so there's no easy way to tell?

Basically I think not. But if you know the actual stepping of the CPU or at least its manufacturing date it should suggest which chip is which. the TbredAs stepping end with A like AIRGA, AIUGA etc. the TbredBs stepping ends with B like AIUCB, AIUGB. So by knowing the stepping you know if this is an A or a B

What the coolest said, its very easy to tell between the T-bred A and T-bred B. All by the last letter in the stepping which should be B if you got a T-bred B.
The T-bred B is also physically bigger than the T-bred A although I dont think its noticable.

This seriously sucks that I can't use Tbred B chips. What a let-down! :(
