Wood Case Pannel + Hoot Chute

I'm just wondering if it would be ok to use a wood pannel as a permanent solution for the hoot chute? I remember that a piece of particle board was used in the original article in place of the metal case pannel, but I was thinking of taking a router to a piece of denser wood and customizing it to fit onto the side of my case.

The reason for this would be to avoid the vibration caused by a thin metal case pannel. Would this cause any problems for the blower though, such as a buildup of static electricity?

As long as you're not hung up on the mismatch of wood on painted metal, it will work fine and yes, it will reduce the tympanic effect of a piece of thin sheet metal. What looks halfway decent is formica clad particle board that matches the case color. Particle board, due to not having a defined grain, does an excellent job of diffusing conducted vibration. That's why so many speaker makers use it, not to mention it's cheap.
