View Full Version : Yamaha vs. Plextor
PLEXTOR 48x24x48 CD-RW
VS
YAMAHA CRW-F1 44x24x44
Which would you take? Out of personal experience between the two, or perhaps just cuz you like one looks over the other. Just curious. The only main difference, aside from the yamaha's insignificant slower write, is that the yamaha has a pretty slow seek time compared to the plextor. Anyone owning the yamaha, what do you think? Does this bother you at all? Do you even notice the slower seek times on cd's? THanks
You are right that 44x is not much slower than 48x, so comparing seek times may be the best way to compare them.
Also look at buffer sizes, buffer under-run protection and software bundles if any.

I've used and fallen in love with drives from both companies, and I don't think there is a bad choice here.
So why did I almost scream "PLEXTOR"?
Disc T@2. Even if I never used it, I'd be ashamed to have something that gimmicky on my system. And I'm not some strict functionalist. Its just that drawing pictures or writing messages in the sublimation dye on a CD-R is way, way over the line.
Hey, you asked. ;)

IMO, it's a neat feature that's totally useless; I'm not in the habit of leaving empty space on CD-R's.

If you want the best audio ripper/recorder, Plextor is second to none.

another vote for plextor, but really you can't go wrong with either one especially for burning audio cd's

After the latest Plextor tools release , the Plextor is the king , read ... http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=144461
I would vote for Plextor too. But if you are short on cash then Lite-On burners are a great value for the money:D

Oups my apologies to the American friends , the Plextor tools is only for the European region , but its good news anyway .. ;)
thanks a lot for the info and help guys. i really like the quality of plextor products. i still own and use an old scsi 8x plextor burner and its great. however, after reading plenty of articles, on top of that using common sense, i cant say this decision between the two will be one of specs of the drives. drives in this class are all very very much the same, hence an aesthetic choice will do it. lol. i might grab the yamaha just to give another brand a try, along with the fact that i kinda think that t@2 thing is cool, and the bright blue led on the drive is pretty tight ;) thanks guys.
I used to (try) to use Yamaha burners. The failure rate was so high I had to stop using them no matter how good the name recognition, reviews, or features. Plextors have proven very reliable for me over the years. Yamaha CD-RW's used to be the high end choice, but after you see as many failures as I have, you realize it is a dead end choice.

I would love to have the Yahmmy just for that reason. Think of all of the times you leae and do not bring along the case on your back up disk so when you get to your mother-in-laws house you cannot install the game becouse of the darn #. If I had a Yahmmy then I could just BURN IT RIGHT IN.
but I bought the plextor becouse I have used them for years and it is cool having a case with different white plextors in it.
