Lately I have been looking into building a water cooling rig. I have read through all the sticky posts and have learned alot. But one thing is still bothering me. I plan to use the equip. in my sig. Im already getting 1.9Ghz from the chip so Im not far from its limits based on what others are achieving from this chip.
So is it really worth investing in a water cooling setup when I already achieve such a high overclock and such low temps running air cooling? Or does anyone think a water setup could drastically improve my OC? I also am concidering buying a Epox 8K3A+ to replace the Soyo just to see how much more I can push out of the chip. I would like anyone opinion on this because I would hate to drop $100+ for just a few mhz and 2c-3c in temp change.

I have never looked at water cooling as an overclocking tool. Though it can be used effectively to give you a much higher overclock I feel thats not its biggest selling point. My number one reason I went with watercooling was to decrease the noise coming from my computer, while maintaining acceptable temps.

So is it worth it? Hell if I know. I think its up to you. each person has his own opinion on whats *worth* it.

I been seeing a lot of people have been getting good OC's out of the AMD Athlon XP 1700+ Thoroughbred. It's $58.00 that's about half of what your looking at spending.

The real question I was trying to get across is not what to get to achieve a higher OC but is a water setup gonna drastically improve what i can do already with air thus allowing a higher OC. Sorry for any confusion with this. After reading all the stickys on water cooling my brain is fried. lol  :p

You wont always inproove overclock, but you will reduce noize if you do it correctly. And the best part is that its FUN! I have such a great time building watercooling systems and equiptment!
Back on my AGKGA 1700+ I couldnt get any more out of it with watercooling, even 1c water!
with your 1600+, you may be able to get close to 2ghz out of it, but getting 2ghz out of it is difficult
aircooling at those overclocks is loud isnt it:p

What did you say? I can hear you with all the fan noise.:D Yea, It it rather loud, though its not a concern really. I really want to try and built a water setup, but for some reason I need something to justify the cost. The though or cracking 2Ghz helps alot.;) but for that I will need a new mobo first. Soyo just cant get the high fsb needed.
My biggest worry is that I see people running water cooling with less of a OC than me and only achieving about the same temps I get with a HS/F.

That is probably because they weren't installing them correctly, or they were using cheap water kits. With a quality kit, theres no way a fan setup is going to even come close.

Thanks to all for the replies. And thank Warehouse for your opinion. Your answer was more in the direction I was going with this thread.
So basically what your saying is if your not willing to do a quality water setup dont bother cause your results will be no better than a good air setup.

exaclty!!
WC can bring silence~ great performance~ and alot of dead hardware~ low cost pre built kits= crap........ not worth it~
i would get a new motherboard cause the 8k3a+ will be pretty nice~ i have it and get 2gig from my 1600 on water (and air with a AX7)

It may get you another 100 and afew by going water. I only even say that because I've had 3 AGOIA's in my hands now (1800+, 2 2000+) they all toped out at just over 2000mhz.

Really what you're will see are more stable temps, and ALOT less noise.
