Yeah. I would imagine it would be due to heat. Ive hear people "cracking" their cores...is this a Thunderbird trend or does it happen to p3/4? And how can it happen to me?

cracking the core is exactly what is sounds like, breaking, chipping, destroying your core. You do this by putting too much pressure onto the core of a chip. It mainly happens in AMD chips but can but rarely in Intel chips. Most of the time cracking occurs through using the wrong hsf on a socket a cpu, or improperly installing a hsf. Other times, a flaw in the hsf design(Globalwin Clip) will crack the core as well. With carefull instilation, you should be able to avoid this.

i have chipped a little of my edges off...but you can REALLY crack it if you try and put a GlobalWin on without using a pair of needle nosed pliers and taking out your PS....then it is a sinch and you will have NO PROBS with it
