SD-600's are around 250 bucks, actually.
And if you havn't HEARD high quality headphones, you Just Don't Get It. Ask RangerJoe or SpaceRangerJoe what the difference between a pair of Aiwa's and a pair of Grados :D

I use the AKG K240 monitors for my studio. (only 100 bucks)
They give a totally flat response, which is good in a studio situation.

glad you like them.
i'd love to get my hands on a pair of HD600's, but my EH2270's would get envious.
I use to have a pair of Sennheiser HD-500's. I liked them alot, I bought them when I thought my Koss UR-80's (yeah, yeah.. I know) died. Well, it turns out they weren't dead at all, so I ended up taking those Sennheiser's back and keeping my UR-80's. I don't regret the decision at all, really. I didn't need high quality headphones since I had my Logitech Z-560's... well, the amp recently fried on those (foot + kicking speaker connections on accident = bye bye bass, hello treble).
I must say though, those Sennheiser's rocked and they weren't anywhere near the "top of the line" for Sennheiser. Great company in my opinion.

Why such expensive headphones?
Generally speaking, it is much easier to get clean, audiohile-level sound from a great pair of headphones than from a great set of speakers (and yes, I'm talking to you Klipsch 5.1 owners too ;) ). In fact, some would argue that the best headphones out there will outperform the best speaker set you can buy. I once saw a set of headphones that were like $15,000

Sennheiser Orpheus (http://www.sennheiserusa.com/pages/products/headphones/orpheus.htm) 14,900

I was under the impression that Senn was gonna stop making the Orpheus. And, 15k is a drop in the bucket when you compare that to some bleeding-edge speakers.
Besides, the Orpheus is susposed to be a total eargasm. :D

Ahhh, but you can only get that bass that caves your chest in from some good subs. I'm talking about that inaudible bass that makes you nauseous.

The best headphones out therer will not only outperform the best speakers, they will BLOW AWAY the speakers, and cost tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of dollars less.
And any real audiophile loathes bass heavy systems. The ability to make a lot of noise is the antithesis of what a real stereo system is about. IMO, listening to music should be a plesent one, not a sickening one :(

I agree :D
I bought my Sennheisers HD 477 a while ago, and I found out that I now use them more than my Boston Acoustics digital media theater system
bah, when I'm playing music, I want everyone to know I'm playing Music. Can't really show and **** of the neighbors how much you love music with headphones =)
I'm using a pair of HD570, and also a set of z560(just sold it).
Its night and day when listening to Classical between them, you wouldn't belive the quality differences. Actually now I'm deciding to purchase either a set of z680, or a headphone amp:D
