I've been working off and on for about 2 months on this it's about 70% done. I still have to paint the metal parts get a new cd-rom cable and a couple other things when it's done it will sit about 7 inches off my desk via a 10'' pole the screws into the 90o elbow as pictured. Note the lcd isn't installed yet its in fact sitting to the right in the first two pictures.
LMK what yall think.

Thats an old Alpha for socket 7 cut up :) And it's a Laptop P3-600 so it runs cooler then normal P3s. I let it run for a couple hours and the heatsink didn't even get very warm with no fan :)
This is my first laptop mod and 4th computer mod(Of my own) I've helped several people localy with blow holes and paint jobs etc.
Again Thanks and I can't wait to finish it there a lot of little things I still need to do.

Sorry, I don't have any pics right now, I think i may have taken some though. IT was an OLD 386/16 or something, 2 megs of ram, 84meg hd. I removed the hard drive, and ran it off of a floppy. I built a wooden frame around the LCD (640x480 greyscale), and glued the mobo and everything onto the back of that. It ran a Qbasic program I wrote to display 320x240 greyscale bitmaps. Basically, it was a picture frame that could change pictures. I wrote a program to transfer text to it via the parallel port, but never really found a use for it. I was thinking of loading linux on a floppy, and use my parallel port nic, but it's been sitting so long, the bios battery died, and I need to reset some bios options, like continue with errors and such, but the ps2 connector fell off and I can't find the original keyboard.
One of these days I'l find a ps2 connector, solder it in, and reset the bios. It was pretty cool for outdated technology. Maybe my 486/50 laptop will be next :P

If you look at picture misc0006.jpg you be looking at the LCD Retension(sp) the lcd fits in that metal plate via 4 screws on each side so on the front you have the lcd and the back is all clear to see the mobo/dvd-rom/hd etc. It will clearer when I have the lcd attached and running I'll get pics of that tomorrow :)

(The LCD is a bit dusty and I got some glare from the flash) This is how it all fits together.

THat is so cool and well... ok one sugestion, get a wireles keyboard mouse from logitech and put the reciever on the back so it looks like there are literaly no wires and the power cord will go thru that pipe right?

Yep after I paint all the metal parts(I'm using the multi-color changing paint)
I'll be running the cat5,power,mouse,keyboard,and s-video thru the pipe. As far as the wireless keyboard and mouse that will be great when I attach it to my lazyboy(Sometime in the future) I just want to finish the mod itself then I'll get into what other goodies I can attach(I also got 1 open PCMCIA slot).
Thanks

that is very nice....Heh, I thought the pole was to attach the LCD to, lol...but that is a much better idea, to put the LCD on the back of it.
thats some great work

Nice job, very well done. I agree about the cordless keyboard and mouse. What are you gonna use it for? Internet from a lazyboy? That'd be cool if it was. Kickass mod. Can't wait to see more from you.

i was thinking it was a spout for liquid nitrogen :D hehe do a little extreme cooling on the laptop...

I read about the guy and his laptop :) lol
liquid nitrogen would be overkill!! and something I would want to do to my main computer not this.
When this is done I'm starting on the base for my desk(Will sit here for a while before it goes to lazyboy)the base will be acrylic(sp) also and will house my Belkin KVM,5 Port10/100 Switch,Usb Hub and laptop battery. That will done be late Jan. this should be painted and trimed by christmas.
I going to go get a 12'' ploe rather than the 10'' one and I got a shorter coupler between the back of the unit and the 90o elbow so u won't see it at all. Then take apart and paint, clean put back together and it will be done.
