SHould i assume that if i leave my computer on for a couple of days and it just folds that my system is stable? Since It should be using 100% of the cpu cycles? I wouldnt trade it for prime 95 just wondered though.

It is stable but Prime95 will give an indication of a higher level of Stable. I usually run Prime95 torture test for a few hours and if it is without errors then I am good to go Folding wise:d

Fold on!!!!

Prime95 will verify that there are no computational errors, which is crucial for sending good data back to Stanford.

Operating System: Windows XP Build 2600 up for 1 weeks, 1 days, 23 hours, 7 minutes 16 seconds

as you can see, i use mine kindof as determining whether its stable or not... :D

I prefer to Prime 95 (Torture Test) for a week straight and make sure I don't get any errors. I make sure since in my opinion, Prime Torture test is alot more stressful than Folding since it tests a series of things whereas the tinker core only tests the CPU specifically and the gromacs won't be able to identify if you send back corrupted WUs.

Use the flag -verbosity 9 when folding. You'll see if there are errors. Also your SSE/3dNow! are likely to get shut off if folding thinks a gromacs unit has errors.
of course a spectrum of testing is always best.... Prime95, F@H, 3dmark, etc.

i rekon you should use prime95 as it pushes your cpu harder, i certainly get MUCH higher temps when using prime compaired to using folding.

I've pretty much given up using Prime95 as my stability tester and just use folding. When I'm looking for my max stable overclock, I'll bump up the speed and watch how that rig will fold for 3 days or so. If it is stable and no problems, then I'll go higher. The Gromacs WU's will really test your stability; I have had a few rigs that would fold perfectly stable for days on end with Tinker WU's start faulting out on SSE with Gromacs. I would then go and back it off just a hair and would be totally stable. I still use Prime95 for a fairly quick stability check with a new system or proc though and then fine tune it while folding.

Yeah, I've found gromacs makes my athlons a degree or two hotter than tinker, as hot as P95. Its hard to say if gromacs errors are caused by overclocking or bugs in the new core and WU's. When gromacs gets ironed out though I still think it'll be at least as good or better than Prime95.

I've gotten new cpu's before... overclocked 'em and started them folding right off the bat... they'd go for hours, even a day or two at a time without crashing.... start up Prime95 and they'd crap out in half an hour or less. I'd usually delete the results since I didn't want to send in bad stuff to Stanford.

I can also attest to the fact that Prime runs 5-6 degrees higher than folding from what I've seen.

Personally I don't feel good until I've stressed an OC with Prime.
