Hi there...
For several times last week my computer shut down from one second to the other - I thought about a CPU - cooling problem, but BIOS showed fine 50°C CPU...

I'm running my AMD Thundbird XP now at 1.2Ghz to ensure it won't shut down again and I downloaded Motherboardmanager 5 to watch the temperatures in Windows.

Surprisingly it found 4 Sensors...

1st obviously motherboard temp: 25°
2nd CPU temp: constant 50°
3rd ?? - around 14°
and now my big problem
a 4th sensor (called Asus 4 in MBM) which is around 85°-90°!

I noticed that it rises with CPU load, so maybe a second sensor - don't really know, can u imagine what's this sensor for? At 100° the system shuts down.

thx for your help
johannes

It is temperature probe. I beleive. You probably don't have one, so it just is fudged.

yup nothing to worry about there its a false sensor which probably varies with power comsumption of the cpu. disable it as this is probably causing your computer to shut down automatically. as for the 14 c sensor three either it is really cold in your room and thats a sensor on your board to monitor air temps or it is also a falsie.

thx a lot!

disabling in mbm is no problem, but how to tell BIOS not to observe this false sensor? or should I disable the function to check for high temperature globally?

thank you
johannes

And click to find your board...and what the sensors show

Dont worry about it. The only temps that bios uses are the ones that you can see when you look in the bios screens. :)

Had the same problem with a few soltek mobo's.... showing 90-99 c's CPU temp and -3 to -5 case temps...

No worries mate..

You have an A7V333? That fourth prob is the thermal diode. What BIOS are you using? (if you are using an A7V333....)

My 4th reading never goes over 46, and that's with 1.9 volts.

yes I have an A7V333, this text is showing while starting:

Award Medallion BIOS v. 6.0
...
ASUS A7V333 ACPI BIOS Revision 1004

Well this 4th sensor is still @ 82°C (vcore 1,75 volt - the lowest possibility actually), although it might be a false sensor, the computer goes black, when it's reaching 100°C (usually after 2 hours running)

thx4help!

What kind of heatsink/fan combination are you using ? Are you using one of those thermal pads instead of grease on your cpu ? There's a possibility you are actually experiencing high temperatures, so you'd better find out before you blow your processor.

don't use thermalpad... but gonna check my grease... could be possible...

btw I'm using a cooler master (cooper)

just4info:

checked my grease and both my cooler and grease was totally black, obviously @ A7V333 this sensor isn't a fludge, bought new cooler today and I'm down @ 51°C (=sensor1) and 61°C (=sensor2) the real value probably is between (@running my 1600 @ ~1700 now)

anyway thx 4 help and keep cooling!

Don't worry. It's not really 90C. Easy way to tell is that if anything in your case was 90C, the fire department would be there already. :D

Whoa... You're using 1004?! That BIOS was known to have a lot of bugs. Download the lastest bios (1015) and extract it to a floppy. Remember what the file is called (I believe it's AV33315.AWD once extracted) and reboot. As soon as your PC reboots, keep pressing ALT + F2 until the built in bios flasher appears. It'll tell you to write the file name, and press enter. It will then scan the BIOS to make sure it's compatible. Once that's done, press y for yes and let it flash. :) That should solve your temp problem, and even give you a few extra features. (C.O.P... On die temp readings, and Q-Fan). Don't use Q-Fan if you're overclocking though, as it slows down your fan to make your PC more quiet, and makes it go faster if temps get to a certain point. You will also get a bit more memory bandwidth. :)
