i wrote yesterday :: hi i m new in overclocking.. i have an athlon T-bird 1.4 and i want to ask if its possible to make a radiator without fans to cool my cpu .. i mean if i make a radiator with big surface area is it possible to keep my cpu under 50C ?? pls help anyone tried something like this?
i want to add to this that my cpu is not overclocked... i just do not want to use fans for noise.. i actually usually use my pc for downloads at nights and i dont want to hear those all fans ( my pc is my bedroom) i think when a pc only downloads from internet is like idling isnt it? i will use fans all time except nights.. is it possible to keep my cpu under 50 C at nights with a big radiator?

it's possible to have a VERY quiet computer and still have fans. Although it is possible to cool a computer with a large radiator with no fans, it's more difficult.
I would recommend getting some large, quiet fans and just running a conventional system. I've put together watercooled computers that were quieter than most OEM computers. The loudest thing in them being the hard drives and/or power supply.

Welcome to the forums too :) I'd second what NeoMoses said. Also, I'd go with at least some airflow in the case, as you need to cool passive components that add to the heat; Mainboard mosfets, southbridge, northbridge if that's got a fanless heatsink; In short, if you use quiet fans, and some noise deadening material, that should do fine. And I agree with the hard drive and PSU being the loudest part of your PC after you watercool the cpu +gpu. Use something like the seagate cheetahs or diamondmax 9 series, with fluid bearings, and then mount them in a foam ruber cradle - making sure that they get some airflow too, you don't want your hard drives overheating because you've effectively insulated them thermally as well. It is possible to build a completely fanless noise free PC though, it's just more difficult like NeoMoses said :)

thx for your help... i also want to add that the radiater will be out of the case..do i still need those fans?
if you have a huge radiator you wont need fans but you could just go with a heatercore with some stealth fans on it

If it's outside the case then ya. Put a 120mm fan on a shroud. Then put that on a heater core. You'll do just fine.

I was talking to a guy the other day in the SMP forums who cools his computer with a sealed up aquarium and 10 gallons of water. No fans at all, just a couple pumps.
Completely passive cooling and he said his temps didn't get near 50C. I think his name was HotKoala.
