I might go water cooling soon, and if I do, I might want to make an external box to hold my res and radiators and such. Would this be a good idea, are there any downsides? And also, if I could put more than one (about 3) radiators in, and keep air blowing over them, would it be worth it? Or would the performance gain be minimal? Thanks....

You'll get dimishing returns pretty quick. Two rads in parallel would be a good way to go if you have the room and the money.
I would go with one first, and see how far above ambient your proc gets when you oc it as far as possible. If you are still close to ambient, you get now gane from a second rad. If you're a bunch above ambient, then a second rad could help. Start simple, add if you need. My GUESS is that one good rad will be more than enough for one proc. If you're cooling some peltiers, or multiple procs, then you might consider more rads.
Good luck!

also important of course is what KIND of radiator... if its large, one or 2 is enough, but if you use small ones, you might find 3 beneficial
