can you just install these drivers over the old 2.4's?

also is their any performance gain with these new drivers?

Give this thread a little bump.

I would estimate that they WILL work with built by ATI cards, seeing how all brands of 9700Pro's are virtually identical, with the exception of the cooling solution.

Guess I'll try it out and get back to ya :)

Here we go!

My 3DMark score was only a couple 100 points lower than when I had my GPU clocked at 350/700! And my system's configuration is ANYTHING but optimal.

I've got Windows XP I had to recently reinstall on top of itself to solve a freak problem with some older ATI drivers, and I installed these new catalyst 2.5's over my old 2.4's. ROFL. The control panel tells me I have 2.4, but the driver number is up to 6218 from 6200. 3DMark tells me I also have DirectX9 (I tried out the release candidate, pretty cool, and I used some DOS utility to get rid of it.....but I guess a couple traces are still in here somewhere).

I just wish Gigabyte's Granite Bay would COME OUT FOR SALE ALREADY!!! :D Then I could finally blast the HD clean and start cranking out some real scores :D :D

EDIT: Oh yeah, the score with the new drivers, amid my trainwreck I call an operating system, is 15350. That's at 3.04Ghz, stock vid card clocks and details set for best performance for benchmarking. Memory is on a 4/5 divider, 2.5-4-4-6-2T (I think.....my RAM is kinda crappy) doing about DDR362

They seem about the same to me except i lost about 300 points in 3Dmarks which isnt a big deal but i do love the Vsync option now.

Yeah, vsync that finally works (I haven't tried it in the worst situation yet...MOH:AA) is a godsend. Before, I would be playing MOH:AA and nearly have a heart attack from the tearing! It was absolutely TERRIBLE! No idea why.

But I'm glad I can finally force it to be always on :)

I had some problems with the Cat's 2.4, NFS HP2 and UT2k3 used to kick me out of the game randomly, and UT used to give me an error about some textures or something. I'm not sure if it was the card clocked too high or the drivers, I'm gonna give these a shot and see what happens.
you can also get all 3 versions of the Cat's 2.5 at www.guru3d.com Win2kXP/Win9x/both OSes

I too lost about 200 3dmarks and still get kicked out of the games for no appearant reason. They were also noticably slower in NFS HP2. Back to the old Cat's 2.4...
