my drive started clunking a little over 2 weeks ago. i reformatted and slowly but shortly the drive is getting currupted.

no biggie, i have 3 year warrenty on the drive. i go to WD's site and it seems easy enough to get a RMA on the drive. however, around a year ago when i bought this drive, this drive was the ultimate top of the line harddrive and i THINK i payed around $250 for it. what happened? why doesnt wd sell this anymore? was it defective so they needed to take them back?

you bought the 8mb cache version a year ago? like last December? I didn't know they were out back then, the 80 gig version i have wasn't available on new-egg even in mid October of this year (I had to buy from googlegear). Not saying your wrong, just asking if that version was out a year ago.

The SE's were (I believe) released this summer if not this spring...

no i am 100% positive i purchased it in January. i built my first computer in january 2002 and i purchased that drive with the pc. i got warrenty for it. it is really cool, unlike newegg warrenty where you need to send the product first and then they recieve it and then after that they send the replacement to you, what they do is they send you the hardrive and then you send them yours

did you say you bought it from newegg? if so you can go directly to wd and get an rma and get the hard drive replaced. it takes about a WEEK for the hdd to get back to you. wd has the best rma department ive seen. next to newegg. hope this helps

well if you get the special edition drives w/ 8mb cache (i am not sure if they make 60 gigs i know they make 80gigs) you get 3 year warrenty which is longer than any other company gives you on their drives.

they are very very fast
