This is beyond funny:5/01/2002 - More Evidence Against Wal-Mart
Not only is Wal-Mart targeting our youth with prurient and outright pornographic "reading" material, but they are also facilitating hackers by selling so-called "naked PCs" on their website. While this sounds like more computer pornography, naked PCs -- or computers of questionable legality sold without an installed and licensed operating system -- are actually more pernicious in that they are used by members of the Free Source cult to create hacking tools for disabling filtering software. Walmart.com even promotes the use of these hacking tools (popularly known as "Linix") in conjunction with the naked PCs they sell. Furthermore, when not being used for hacking, these naked PCs are used for running computer operating systems (such as the standard Microsoft Windows or alternate systems like Apple Macintosh) without paying for the proper licenses -- in other words, theft. Does this sound like a wholesome business to you?
An evidently legitimate site:http://www.orgsites.com/mi/cudi/welcome.html
Clothe those naked computers Wal Mart!

so they are selling computers without an operating system? unless i understand it wrong that's what i get out of it. unlike every other vendor your not forced to take whatever OS they want you to have, you free to use whatever you want and not have to pay for something you don't want.

Haha! There's enough real stuff against Walmart that you don't need to play on people's misconceptions and ignorance to make them look bad. Sheesh.
FUD alert! FUD alert!
That's rediculous! I mean, are people still this uninformed?!

selling a bone stock pc isnt promoting what you are stating.it just lets people choose what they want to install.and anyone in there right mind who has enough knowledge to put illegal software on a pc isnt EVER gonna buy the pc in the first place!

Please don't waste electrons saying that this is inaccurate. Anyone who doesn't know that it is is beyond hope.
If you click on the link, you'll see that the group is a bunch of old clueless fogies who think that OSS is socialism Read this (http://www.orgsites.com/mi/cudi/news.html#03282000) for an idea how utterly inept these people are. Here's a couple of quotes.
Its members release their software under something called the Glorious People's License (or GPL) which basically states that no one can own the software or put restrictions on copying it.
"The Free Source has been recruiting on line for years now," says Ted Phillips, an expert on modern cults, "... They often work by enticing teens and young adults with the promise of free software and beer, before they start encouraging them to read parable-laced screeds that further indoctrinate them into the cult. ..."
(emphasis added)
That site seems so much like a joke........yet its not.......

This site reminds me of that kid in highschool who talked like he knew everything but didnt. He was really good at making himself look like an ass, much like these people.

How man times was the word "hack" incorrectly used on that site? I lost count lol.
If I ever want a good laugh I can just go to that site and be silently amused with the amount of ignorance portrayed there... Linix hahhahahaha

Apparently, Canada sucks:
Those few vulgar and obscene sites that refuse to change will be marginalized and accessable only to domestic perverts (who can be isolated and tracked by Homeland Security) and foreigners in disreputable countries like Holland or Canada.
Looking a little deeper at that site makes me want to ask RMS to go talk to them. It's at the absolute edge of my ability to believe that people can be so ignorant and see things as black and white to such an extreme degree. They don't know what they're talking about, but they assert as absolute their view about it.
If they can figure out how to get their forums back up, it will be pure joy to try to ram some common sense and real information into those people's heads (with respect, accurate information and correct grammar, of course). I'm sure it's a lost cause, but I can't see something like that and not react.

This site is obviously a joke/hoax site (like www.mavav.org). They call the GPL the "Glorious People's License." I just noticed they link to mavav.org (supposedly OBJECTIVE: ministries is also a hoax).. It's a hoax. Everything about this site screams of hoax. The fact that they don't submit stories often, the missing link to their forums section and guestbook, the obvious lies, the links to other hoax sites, the picture before you enter the site, the way its designed to upset free software people, etc. Didn't fool me for a second.
The scary thing is that there are people out there who will believe it, and also believe the lies that they have on the site and think that free software types are a bunch of evil hackers.

IDK about it being a parody, although it would help me sleep better at night. None of the several links I looked at seemed fake, and I know that at least one of them is real (Focus on the Family).
If they ever get their forums up, I'll be there in a second. In the meantime, I've got better things to think about.

Well, I did a little searching and I couldn't confirm it to be a fake, but did find a lot of blog entries saying people think its a fake and citing evidence that it is. Supposedly there are no links to it from any legit sites. It doesn't even rank very high when you Google search Cudi. www.mavav.org is a confirmed hoax site (the author did it as a project for school). The fact that this site links to MAVAV it is suspicious, though it doesn't confirm anything, as they could've fell for that hoax themselves. It also links to another hoax site, though I haven't confirmed that as a hoax myself (read it on someone's blog).
I sent Cudi e-mail asking if it is a hoax, but I doubt I'll get a reply. I bet for every angry e-mail they get, there is some guy laughing his ass off.

free source cult. . . .what about the Microsoft Supremecy Cult? That site just scares me, I hope it is a hoax, if not, I will point out that their webserver could be running an open source operating system (could someone finger it for me, im in windows and I don't have good networking software on windows). And they can thank their internet security to countless opensource projects such as openssl. The ignorance is just plain terrifying.
edit: hey they are based in livonia michigan, thats about 45 minutes from where I live. . .perhaps I should pay them a visit :P

Damn kids with their loud rap music! We should get back to the good ol' days of beatin' queers and listenin' to good ol fashioned hymns while having those delightful slaves picking our cotten while we sit on our porches drinking lemonade. Thats the America that should be!
And if the sarcasm is not obvious, you people are in severe need of mental help

The email link goes to a gaius.org. www.gaius.org seems to be a christian site, but it also gives free email. I wouldn't be surprised if it were real, you would be surprised at some of the ideas floating out there about technology from those who can't comprehend it.

Coltice, please look at my first post in this thread, then look at yours.
nil_esh, I know that Focus on the Family is real, and I'm 90% sure that the Family Research Council is too. I'd love for this to be a joke, but it looks to me like it really is a bunch of clueless old fogies. That doesn't explain how they got "Glorious People's License" from GPL, though.

Well, the links to real sites are there to make it more convincing. I'm not even sure if the ad at the bottom is a real ad or just part of the hoax. Though, we'll never know if its truly a hoax unless the creator of the site comes forward. I'm certainly curious what the story behind this is.
Coltice - The point of the GPL is that it is free as in speech and not free as in beer. However, there's still plenty of free beer to be had. Let me know if you're ever in Tampa, I usually know where the free beer is at

Boy, I forgot about this thread.
I'd be curious to know if someone could confirm it is a parody.
There are some very convincing parody sites out there, just Google Landover Baptist, and you'll see what I mean.
But listen to talk radio, or take a look at www.godhatesamerica, and you'll see that it could be on the level.

Face it, we live in a world full of loons.

quote from the "Is your son a hacker" page:
Popular hacker software includes "Comet Cursor", "Bonzi Buddy" and "Flash".
While I am not a hacker, isn't bonzai buddy that stupis ape thing that dances around on your desktop if you install it, and isn't flash a player for site intros and such? I don't even know what comet cursor is though.
Is there actually some way to hack with these, because I sure have never heard of it.
Edit: After reading the next section about AMD being a purely hacker processor that is made it third world countries by childern, I know this was a joke.
And would anyone put "Oh yea, for everyone out there who is an idiot, this is all just a JOKE :)" at the end of their site if it was supposed to be legitimate? The smiley face gives it away for me.
Edit 2: I really hope the http://www.rajuabju.com/warezirc/childahacker.htm site isn't the site you are believing is legitimate because it obviously isn't.

No, MAVAV is not a legitimate site, his page is down, but here is the Google cache of the author's page:
http://216.239.51.104/search?q=cache:_GxwYYW8NrwJ:a.parsons.edu/~dyoo/2002-3/interactivity/mavav/
More importantly, are there any legitimate links TO this web site? Are there any any legit organizations that link to CUDI?
Anyone can easilly make a page with a bunch of links to legit sites, but this site even goes and links to other hoaxes. I am absolutely convinced its a hoax.

It is a hoax. I finally found the chink in the armor. Take a look at the Objective Ministries link.
It is a somewhat convincing parody as well, but the links to their products and the Christian rock band Zounds give it away.
They got me.

Also there is a "Christian Hackers Association" ad on the bottom of that page...
And it says "Please support our website by visiting the following good Christian businesses" over the ad. This is a hoax.
