Ok, i'm not a mega newb, just i'm not experienced with 7v'ing and such, so thought i'd be lazy and just ask you lot :D.

I'm going to be buying a vantec fanbus controller soon, which basically has 4 controls for 4 fans, variable, which you can turn from 12v down to 7v.

What I'm looking for is great case cooling at full (12v), but near silence at low (7v).

My dilema comes from which 80mm case fans to buy, i've been looking at either of these 2, four of them.

YS-TECH 80mm 45CFM/34.5 dBA
Panaflow 80mm 39CFM/32 dBA

Price isnt an issue, but for reference, the Panaflow's inc delivery will cost twice as much as the YS-TECH's.

Now, I'm worried that the panaflows arent the best option if im going to be 7v'ing, because the stats dont look half as good as the YS-TECH's at 12v, yet the panaflows seem to be alot quieter even though there rating is slightly lower, I think its more to do with the pitch, so i'm sure they would be nice and quiet at 7v.

My worry with the YS-TECH's is although they will perform great at the highend, will the 7v reduce them enough to make them silent?

So, I need yo things from you guyz, your recommendation, and a guide as to how far, typically, a fan reduces in rpm/dBA/cfm from 12v --> 7v.

Thanks guyz and galz

I use those very ys-tech fans in my case. I have them hooked up to a baybus and at 7V they still move air well and are nice and quiet. I don't hear them over my psu fans.

Have you considered getting 120mm fans? I really wish I had them instead of my 80mm ones but I will get it right next time :)

I'm in Jamaica (yes the island in the tropics) right now for the holidays, and let me tell you 7volting a fan down here would be suicide to your computer. If your ambient temp is really high I would not 7volt.

Well im good old england, cold as hell :O oops, bad analogy there hehe.

Can't use 120mm, The chassis (Coolermaster 201) is build, and has mounting frames based around 80mm only.

How quiet is quiet in regard to those ys-tech, you reckon they are a better choice over the panaflow ?

Also, i'm buying that nexus panel for cpu fan control, would you recommend a 64cfm/48dBA Delta, or 80cfm/52 dBA Delta, i'm looking for the same thing, silent, or as good as, when everything is on 7v mode, and good cooling at 12v's.

My fear with the 80cfm delta is that it won't go quiet enough hehe, which you reckon ?

BTW, reason I wanna do this is cos I luv overclocking and whatnot, but I sleep in the same room as my pc. Can't turn it off cos its the hub of the whole house network.

P.s. dont wanna hear any watercooling recommendations, I'm air only baby :P

I'd never actually 7 volt a fan. Either get good rheostats or buy a bay bus and do it that way. Its much nicer to have the adjustability.

Here's a good rheobus for ~$29. http://store.yahoo.com/directron/rheobuskit1.html

If you don't have an aluminum case here's another for ~$33 which can be installed on any faceplate.

So this is my question, since price isn't an issue (besides, most fans arent terribly expensive anyways, shop around a bit) why don't you just buy 4 fans that run at between 22dB and 28dB? I mean, panaflo makes an 80 mm fan that runs at 28dB and moves 32.1CFM of air. The price I'm looking at here is 10 bucks plus some shipping. It's my thinking that you might as well just get a quieter fan rather than running them at 7v...

Yes but then you eliminate the ability to run them faster, if i'm running them at 7v, and its achieving for instance, the same sound as those fans you mentioned, and I get to overclock to say....i dunno, 2ghz.

When summertimes comes, or if I decide to overclock more, I have the option of improving my cooling at the flick of a switch, literally, of course, the noise will also be alot more, but its all about choice baby :P

I'd have the ability to cool my pc adequately at a better overclock during the day, then turn down the cooling so its not disturbing at night time when its idle.

those fans you listed wouldnt even be loud why would you want to 7v them?

You may also want to look into making your own fan controll station. Check www.fanbus.com for more info.
