Running an 18-24 volt Peltier off one power supply?

I haven't tried one of these yet, so no guarantees if you do this.

I saw an article on procooling.com where a guy showed how to connect two power supplies to run an 18-24V Peltier. It involved hooking the +12 output of one to the +5 or +12 of the other, but that's not important here.

Why not connect it between the -5V and +12V, -12V and +5V, or -12V and +12V outputs of a single power supply? You'd get 17-24V out of it.

Something like this was discussed a while back. The problem with is is that most negative wires can't handle the amps. Most of them are rated at ~1 amp, and peltliers work at around 8 amps. This would then damage your power supply. There was something about running two power supplies in a series or parallel, though. Let's see if I can find the link
