I think I screwed up my rheostat connection?

I have it connected like this: I have the red wire connected to the left soldier and the black wire to the middle. It doesn't work at all. I need to know exactly how to connect this so it will work.

Red wire from fan to left side (looking at shaft). Red wire to connector on center. Do not mess with the black wire! I though I covered this already.
