After I got my GF4-MX460 I started to (online)game a lot more than I used to do before. Now I read all these great reports on the Ti4200's performance, but will getting one for my good old Cellemine/iBX system make much of a difference? I know the 4200 has 4 pipelines amoung other things but the MX460 has higher core and mem-speeds (300/550 default). See my siggy for my system's specs. The card will be running at a 89Mhz 2xAGP bus, the MX460 does this 100% stable at 330/660...

your cpu is holding you back in that system so while you would see gains, they would not be very drastic

What score are you getting in 3dmark? I agree with funnyperson, your cpu would be holding you back. I would think you would get a few hundred points in 3dmark.

Current 3DMark score is about 4725, but I see this card around 7500-8000 when it's teamed up with a fast PIV or AthlonXP...

The difference you would get from getting a Gf4 ti4200 would be unnoticeable in real world gaming, although you will probably get a slightly higher score in 3dmark 2001. The Gf4 mx460 is no slouch, it's almost as good as the Radeon 8500. I recommend keep it for now, because in about half a year the price of video cards is going to go WAY down.

The actual difference would be more eye candy, as the MX is based on GF2 which is a DX7 card while the Ti is a DX8 card

Upgrade your CPU. Go to www.strattoncomputer.com, they have a Tualatin adapter for Slot 1 boards. About $20, may be more with shipping, but that's a heck of a lot cheaper than Powerleaps. Then get yourself a 1.1a and overclock it. That'll help performance.

With a Ti4200 in your current system, you'd get around 6000 3dmarks. It would probably help some, but not enough for you to make the switch. A system upgrade is going to help more than a video card upgrade for you right now, IMHO.

on a better motherboard and cpu and ram.......that is the start....my daughter has soyo motherboard with crappy chipset but nice cpu and with ti200 it still scores low...(5000 in 3dmarks)
when i put ti4200 in...score went up only 1000 points......psss....motherboard/ram is a must....well, and cpu........
now with same cards in a at7...with ddr pc2700....333 chipset....i get 3dmarks scores of :

ti200=9000 card and cpu overclocked
ti4200=11100 just cpu/ram overclocked

big differece with different motherboard/ram
they both have similar cpu's though.....1550-1730
all in all.....you have one crappy item....it takes a big hit on performance.....two crappy items....and real big hit on performance....three crappy items and your floating down stream without a paddle....

ok guys, then I'll hang on to my current card for now until after my next system upgrade :-) Right now I can still play everything I like with most of the color/performance/detail settings set to 'high'...

Good idea. When I feel like upgrading, I ask myself "am I happy with what I have?" The answer, usually yes, keeps me from upgrading something (wasting money probably) that won't make much difference in my life :D

Things kept annoying me, so the other day I did it anyway! Traded the GF4-MX460 in for a Ti4200 and what a difference! (even on my Celeron/SDRAM system) 3DMark scores went up from 4600 for the MX460 to 7400 for the Ti4200 and all my gamez are now just running so smooothh! Whenever there were lots of light effects like explosions etc. the MX would start to 'choke' in it where the Ti just keeps on pumping. I should have gotten this card in the first place! Cuz now I know even on an older system there's a huge difference between the MX and Ti series, and don't say you guys told me so! LOL!
