What should I expect from this chip? I'll be running it on Epox 8K9A with Samsing PC2700 ram
Is week 41 any good? I heard a lot of good week 42s...
What settings should I try first and what vcore?
Well, I start with the highest voltage I'm willing to run based on my cooling, then see how high I can get the chip to POST before it doesn't. After that, I start walking down until I get get into windows and once into windows a series on mini-stress tests. I fine tune from there.
Essentially, find the peak mhz for the core, then determine the peak for the memory. Tweak for stability.

thanks, i'll follow that
what do you think is a good voltage to start at? My cooling is a Volcano 9

I was pumping 1.7v with an AX-7 and smart fan 2 and it seemed cool enough that I could run more...
If you have good case cooling/air flow and heat isn't usually an issue, I can't see why 1.75 or even 1.80v couldn't be used.

I've got my week 41 AIUGA at 1826MHz right now, with a vcore of 1.725. I think it tops out around 1910MHz but I have to play with it a bit more. It runs pretty cool with my Volcano 9 at a mid-ranged fan setting.
I got for the opposite approach. I start around 10% above the default clock speed, with the default vcore, and run the Sandra burn-in. If it passes I move up around 50 to 100Mhz at a time, upping the vcore when needed.
I don't really think it makes much difference which approach you use, I just find it more fun this way.

Funny you say that, I was thinking when proof reading my reply how systematic I've made this whole overclocking thing... rotflmao
But my method works, as does yours, but mine takes me less time to achieve something of a good overclock (had my tbred stable at 2000ghz in 30 minutes when I started overclocking it).

Haha, well you're certainly right about the time it takes, my method takes a few hours or so, depending on how many times I loop the burn-in at each step. The end result is the same though.
I guess I feel like I'm being more 'nice' to the processor by easing him into it, rather than throwing him into the fire immediately.

yours is a 1700 though, I sure hope mine goes faster than 1900mhz... I was hoping for 2ghz when I ordered it:mad:

Each cpu is different. The current AIUGA cores being sold as 1700 and 1800 cpus are pretty close in overclocking ability.

You're right, but I don't think that it makes much of a difference whether it's a 1700 or 1800. The big difference here seems to be the week. Week 45s, whether 1700 or 1800s, seem to hit 2Ghz pretty easily.
It's more up in the air with these week 41s. There's an earlier thread regarding this week, I think some have hit 2GHz with it.

well I'm in windows xp at 166x12
I tried going 166x12.5, it posted, but wouldn't get to the windows load screen :(
time to run some tests and try for more :D

12-09-02, 08:08 PM
oh yea, running at 1.8vcore
think that's safe?? its running 36C idle
Captain Hilts
12-09-02, 08:13 PM
Sounds good, 1.8v isn't too bad. I'm at 1.8v now but that's only good enough for 166x11.5. I was able to get into windows and do some Sandra benchmarks at 166x12 before it crashed. I need 1.93v to get there though, so I think 2GHz is out of the question for me.

12-09-02, 08:44 PM
well my 3DMark score improved to 9802
and Sandra reports it performing a tiny bit slower than a 2400 which is acceptable... time to crank it higher just to see how it does:D

seems to be running fine at 181x11 :D 12x170,169,168 aren't stable so I decided to play with higher FSBs
I think after burning in, I can possibly reach 2080mhz, with luck
kiljaden5
12-09-02, 09:53 PM
nevermind, both 181x11 and 166x12 freeze up in prime95
I think I'm going to burn it in at 1.85Vcore for 24hrs and see what I can do tomorrow

got my tbred 1800 today AIUGA (green) and i think it's DOA
updating bios now but don't think that will help
i have a 1800+ palomino on it already why would i need to update anything?????
bad luck man!

Resetting the cmos might help as they are identified by the bios as two distinct/different cores.

I have one of these AUIGA week 41 chips. I have mine at 152*12.5 (1900mhz it dosent always post but when it does its perfectly stable, ran seti for 3 days no crashes) I cant for the life of me get the 166fsb to work at all even with my agnga palomino unlocked it wont do it. But im running 1.85V with a volcano 7+ in a thermaltake case (5 fans and its massive) on full load with prime95 it reaches 34 deg idles at 29.

here is a update
put it on my 2nd rig with a cheesy shuttle ak12a kt133 and it worked no prob what so ever and this board was made almost 4 years ago
still can't boot on my MSI KT266a Pro 2 RU
tried flashing with last bios version , clearing cmos....... nottin
it won't even budge
this msi comes with LED's that help u diagnost problems and in this case it does get passed the first set of colors = 4 red leds that means :
-damaged or not properly installed cpu
i'm going to hate to have to rma this 1 back but i have no other choice
w t f is going on?!
i know there is ppl running these tbred on the same mobos as me
and the install went as easy as it went for on the wrong mobo that has no bios features and it's for file server purposes only.
anyone that has experienced this same or similar thing please shead some light this way
I'm a comp tech that knows when to put pride a side.

here's an update:
I've been burning in at 1.9v for the past 10 hours using prime95.. at first the full load temp was 45C, then went down to 44C, and just about an hour ago it went down again to 43C
is this normal that the temp is going gradually down?
Captain Hilts

Yep, that probably has more to do with the thermal paste settling in than anything else.

that makes sense hehe, didn't think of that.. using Arctic Silver 3
I should see how my burning in did, if anything tonight

They say it takes at least 72 hours for the A.S. to fully settle in, and practical experience seems to confirm that.
My 1700+ AIUGA 41 isn't as stable as I thought at 1830MHz and 1.72v. It crashed overnight while looping 3dmark.
Highest I got still is 1910MHz @ 1.82v, but I just ran a few benches at that and didn't do any overnight stability tests. Couldn't get into Windows at 2GHz (tried vcore up to 1.95v).

Just give it some time. Use "toast" as your burning in program, it works a lot better :D Or if you really want to test for stability, use toast and 3dmark at the same time!
These week 41 1700's are really stubborn. I finally got mine up to 2128mhz@1.95v--voltages limited by the mobo(not stable, good enough for sandra benchies). 2100mhz@1.95 is quite stable(loops 3dmark, gaming, 24hrs of folding, etc.) but fails prime95 after 1/2 an hour :(
Good luck
way to go NERD
1700Tbred-A @ 2100mhz
I wish mine can just hit 2000mhz ( in the process of ordering)
btw what cooling you using ?

Kevin, take a peek at my other thread (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=146357) . It took me a while to get to 2ghz. It needed HIGH voltages 12 x 166@1.95v for the burn in(though, i'd get occassional lock ups in the past), now, she's happy at 1.85v completely stable! :)
btw, it's watercooled :D

after burning in at 1.9V for 23 hours, I tries going 182x11 with 1.8V.. fails in prime95 right away and locks up
rebooted with 1.85V and it fails after about 3 mins, but doesn't lock up
is 1.85V a good voltage to have it running OCd or am I risking frying the chip too much? air cooled with volcano9 btw.

also, how can I tell if its my ram crapping out or if its my processor? just by trying lower fsb but higher multiplier?
thanks
kiljaden5
12-10-02, 09:44 PM
I was watching my vcore as I was running prime95, which crapped out after 5 mins btw, and it was jumping from 1.776 up to 1.824 usually staying at 1.808... I have my vcore set to 1.825 right now so I'm thinking maybe my old PSU isn't doing it anymore
i'm using some old 300W one that came with my case 2 years ago lol... maybe that's the reason its not doing so well?

You can try that, or you can try relaxing the timings on the memory. If it is the memory, you can up the mem voltage a bit to stabilize it.
Captain Hilts
12-10-02, 10:03 PM
It's normal for the vcore to flucuate a bit. I think 300W is probably enough (though not all 300W PSUs are equal).
kiljaden5
12-10-02, 10:08 PM
heh well now I know its not my memory, its my chip, and possibly the PSU too cos it won't keep a stable vcore... keeps jumping all over a pretty wide range
I gave up on 2ghz so I'm running it now at 166x11.5 1.75Vcore which now reaches as low as 1.72 :(
when running 166x12 1.825vcore (the most stable setting so far) it would run prime95 for about 20 mins before crashing the comp... this was maybe a minute after the cpu temp reached 47C:mad:
I think i'll change the temperature sensor speed on my volcano9 to manual and increase the fan rpms a little... if that doesn't do it then I think I'll need a good PSU, any suggestions? I wouldn't want to spend over $50

Well I guess I settled into a pretty decent max stable overclock at 170x11.5 running 1.8Vcore 46C at full load and 39C idle
Sandra 2003 benchmarks:
CPU Arithmetic: 7375/2896
Memory Bandwith: 2570/2429
3DMark: 9807 (up from 9500's range)
I'll be getting a new PSU soon so I hope that helps in getting more mhz

Most Xcellent oc ! I'll be getting my 1800 Tbred soon along with a new TTGI 520w psu. Looking @ 2.2Ghz ! :D

you can't run a t-bred on that board unless you pull C-37 and flash 3.74 bios. C-37 is top left of your socket, probably just hidden under the corner of the hsf.

nice o/cs. I can't wait for the T-Bred Bs. Looking forward to breaking 2 gigs easy for about $65 ^_^
(not that my now o/c isn't too shabby)

Well just to through some fuel on the fire, presently running 8k3a+ with xms 3200 c2 and TBred xp1800 week 41 aiuga.
Vcore 1.7, vmem 2.7 (actual closer to 2.76), fsb 201x10. :D
Had it as high as 210x10 but video has major artifacts, 8500le.
Stopped my self twice now from buying the 8rda+ just because I didn't think i would gain enough to justify the cost. Sandra memory test is 305X/28XX :D got to love the 8k3a.

cannot wait for the Tbred B...drool...2G +
Well, it appears Newegg is still handing out week 41 1800+ T-Breds in their retail packages. I ordered one on Tuesday and that's what arrived here in Michigan today. Pretty good shipping time from California with Express Saver from FedEx.
Gonna pop it in my 8K5A3+/Koolance setup and see what happens. Then the 1600+ MP Palomino will go into my spare rig. Lousy overclocking chip. Will only do 1600Mhz with water cooling. Then the 1300 TBird from my spare machine will go into my wife's system and HER 700 T-Bird will go into my spare-spare rig.
I'm starting to run out of room...
