i have adobe prmerier and i took some footage and transfered in on to my computer using the movie capture thing. i have about an hour and a half to two hours that is is taking about 20 gigs of hard drive space. and when you only have 40 like me you want to get it off your computer or shirink it with out loosing the movie. i have tried to transfer it back on to my cam but it doesn't want to, doenst recognize my cam. so i now want to shrink it down to 1 gig if possible. is there a program that will let me do this. rigth now i dont know what format it is in because i am at school but when i get home i will check and post it. basically i dont want it too take up so much space on my computer. ( i have tried winzip and it takes for ever and then i only shringks it to like 17 gig or so. thanks for the help.

right now the video would be in uncompressed form i would suggest you try to compress it using divx5 codec (www.divx.com) it will reduce the file size a lot and since the video format is already so compressed zipping it doesnt do it much good (or atleast that's my experience till now) or even might want to try out using WMV (microsoft thingie)

encode it to DivX / avi format unless you want to burn it to cd then encode it to svcd or vcd format..vcd uses the least amt of space but quality drops abit

i downloaded the divx thing from there website the 5.02 bundle pack and then ran it and looked for the enconding app but none i go back to site and to faq and they said it is not included. wtf when you download a program that is suppose to do someting thenit better do it. they can suck. i then downloaded the flaskmpeg and xmpeg and they dont even show you how to use it i played around with it for awhile and it doesn't even seem to encode to divx. plus when i try to open the video i want to incode nothing happen. please help me out thanks alot

check this (www.electronhouse.com/acc.html) site out, it might help you out

DivX is a code which encoding program uses to compress, right now the video you have on your computer which format is it in?

dont phreak out, man, this stuff is hard to grasp at first.

im assuming that you edited it first, and then exported it as an AVI?

try TMPGEnc, i love it, very easy to figure out. then use WMEnc, it takes the mpeg, and makes mpeg4, which will of course make it real grainy, but you can archive that grainy old footage, or send it out on the web easily. i got a 1.31 Gb AVI to a 6.79 mpeg4 like this...

divx is just the "code" you use. you need an encoder. premier should allow you to export in a dif. format, which is very useful. i think therin lies your problem.
