Hi my brother recently gave me this thing (http://members.rogers.com/jeff359/whatisit.jpg) , he saved it from a scrap pile and thought it would be something i could use but i'm not completly sure on what it is and if it is useful. After reading these forums for a while if anyone can tell me it you guys.
It's an LCD screen and the bottom part of the pic looks like the controller for it.
thats an LCD (liquid crystal dysplay). if it has a certain controller chip you will be able to hook it up to your computer using the parallel port.

you will need to know the pinout and what controller chip it has, is their any kind of identifying markings on it?

the chip on the back say
OC17
HD61202
i'm going to try a google search to see what comes up.
i dont think you will be able to use that because the industry standard controller chip for parallel lcds is the HD44780. even if you do find the pinout for it i have only seen programs that work with lcds with the HD44780.
