View Full Version : Which Ram for a 2.4b @2.7Ghz?
Im getting a 2.4b and plan on doing a slight overclock by raising the fsb from 133 to 150. Right now I have a 256 stick off Curcail pc2100 should I buy another stick of this or buy the cheaper priced 256 stick of Generic pc2700?
What will handle the 150mhz bus better a name band pc2100 or a cheaper Generic OEM pc2700?

Are you planning to mix the ram? no right?
I was planning on mixing it,I was told it run well together just that the pc2700 will not be at it,s full speed while the pc2100 will be considered overclocked.
Dont mix the sticks.
If you have enough money...just buy a 512MB generic PC2700

To my knowledge, all DDR ram are of the same voltage, and since they only differ by speed, you can run both at a speed that both would run independent of each other. A problem you may encounter is that 2 sticks usually don't OC as well as one... I don't know the theory behind that, but that's what i think.
is this how it works?
PC2100 = 133fsb
PC2700 = 166fsb
PC3000 = 183fsb
PC3200 = 200fsb
"Unless you unlock your CPU or have one that can run up to really high FSBs locked than there really is no need for anything over PC2700."
So would not the Crucial pc2100 be only 14mhz overclocked for a 150fsb and the OEM pc2700 still not even running at its full speed yet?

Yes and you will loose ram performance.
It's better to have same speed on the memory.
