I need to set up a PC that can only be used for browsing one website. The machine needs to be set up, so that it will only browse pages on a set url, and wont exit out of Internet Explorer.

Any suggestions?

TIA.

You might see if you can find any places with setups like that and ask them how they did it.

Have had a look round and haven't been able to find anyone with a setup like that. All internet cafes I have looked at you can exit internet explorer and then play around in windows. Want it so the only way you could perhaps exit IE is with a certain keystroke and password or something like that.

All suggestions are welcome.

Thanx.

My guess is that you would need some sort of computer program.

Don't ask me how they did it, but the computers at the library in my hometown are limited. You can only use stuff that's on the desktop. Can't open My Computer. Try to open the start menu and it asks you for shutdown options.

Easy- create a unique user account in XP, and set the permissions for that user to zero. They might be able to exit to the desktop, but if the desktop only has an IE icon, and IE's homepage is your URL, they ain't going anywhere.........

My school's library uses the public web browser. The older version is free: http://www.teamsoftwaresolutions.com

well, a vb proggy wit keystroke blocking and the IE activeX plugin would work. I'd make ya one if some1 would tell me how to block keys in VB6(I've seen it done). ex. if ya hit alt-ctrl-del it could pop up a password window instead of the task manager.

Thanks for your help. The Team Software Solutions idea sound good, will give that a go. Was also told that with Director you can make it run a browser window and block keys, so will have a look at that. The idea of a VB program also sounds good, haven't done any myself, but certainly will bear that in mind as that is more customisable.

Thanks for all your help.

Still any other idea welcome.

Thanx again.

router........you can block all IP's except the one's you want. You can also assign an IP to that machine.......and only block traffic to that machine.......while using it to protect the rest of the network.

Net Nanny (I believe this is the spelling) Only allows access to certain sites you designate.

I love it at wall mart where their solution to blocking other sites is building a plastic shell over the right click and the keys they dont want you to use:D I also think their website thingy is just full screen IE but who knows.

What OS are you using? You can specify that the computer only loads internet explorer on boot:

WinXP:

-Run regedit
-Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

-Add a string value called shell
-Set a value, for example: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

You can do the same in windows 9x, but I think it is in the system.ini file in the system folder.

If you load the policy snap-in you can disable almost everything in IE. (Run MMC, then load the Local Computer Policy snap in)

There is still a way out of it at this point, but not many people could figure out how. (Task manager is one, but you can disable that too).

Using WinXP Pro. Server will be running Win2kSBS.

Rather than having to create a list of sites that you can can't browse, can I make a list of sites that you can browse (eg. just the one site)?

Would be great to remove the task manager as well, only thing being how would I get out of it?

Thanks everyone for all your help. Won't actually be running a router, I know its a bit basic, but the server will be acting as a router.
