I'm having troubles with temps on my watercooled 2.4B

I'm considering lapping the heatsink, but have a couple of questions -

How thick is the heatspreader? I don't want to lap through it!!!!,

Also, wouldn't it matter if a load of carbon, water and metal from the lapping goes into the little hole in the heatspreader?

Thanks
Chez

you dont have to worry at all about lapping through the heatspreader, its fairly think and you need ALOT of lapping to go through it.
if any metal goes in it shoudnt hurt anythingm as for the water, just make sure the CPU is dry before you boot it... But the little water shouldnt hurt anything as nothing is conductive in that hole.

What kind of temps are you getting?

Hmm, your temps do seem a bit high. That being said, I would highly recommend against running your system with a voltage that high. It seems that a lot of people have been running into long term problems when they run their PIVs at or above 1.75 volts. Have you tried resetting your water block? I'm not familiar with your w-block but if it's at all comparable to the more popular blocks/setups on the market, you *should* be getting lower temps than that. Also, you may want to look into the accuracy of your temp monitor. If that's not feasible for you, you might want to check your water temps before and after your radiator (as well as water block) in your loop.

Having talked to people using the OCPC kit, I've heard many reports of temps 12*C above ambient at full load, so I was hoping to get something in the mid-30's.

The voltage is needed to run it at 3GHz or above, the processor was sold to me pre-tested on the basis that it will run at 3GHz at this voltage, if it fails I can return it.

Most of the other stuff has already been suggested to me on the other thread and I have ordered a 1/2" inline temp probe to get an idea of water temps.

Thanks

Why lap it, take it off and build up the sides of the core with overlapping black tape. If you get the right tape it takes 4 strips of tape to raise the sides to the same height as the core. Works great.
