Hey guys,

I'm building a P4 system for a client. Aopen 478 board, P4 2 GHz, 256 DDR, 450w PSU, DVD and CDRW drive and 40 GB Maxtor HDD. Every time I attempt to install Windows it cant find a bunch of files. I have tried both a Winxp Home and Corp CD and the same the problem each time. I have my HDD on the IDE1 channel alone and I have the CDRW on IDE2. I had the DVD on IDE1 but I thought it might be causing problems so I unplugged it. I have tried installing with both drives, changed molex connectors around and IDE cables....I don't understand whats going on. Someone please enlighten me.

I do not know, but I have a few suggestions.
Remove all drives but the hard drive and the CD drive. Take out all but the video card. Just have the bare minimum to run when you install.
Make sure the BIOS virus protection is off.

What he said.
It also could be a memory problem. Try swapping slots, and try different RAM if you have some.

Is the cd badly scratched ? Does it work ok in a different machine?

Well thats actually what it was. I dropped in a stick of Mushkin and it worked like a charm, Windows installed perfectly. The ram is some generic type and it says RAMOL on the chips. Well, I appreciate all the help.:)
