in-line water pumps

i am looking at the Eheim 1046 In-line Water Pump and the 1048 is the 1048 worth more money and why alsowould the 1046 cut it. Anyone with advice would be apperciated. if you own one how do you like it

I might be better placed to answer this in a few weeks, when I have my new watercooled rig up and running. I've ordered the Eheim 1048 pump from watercooling.co.uk (http://www.watercooling.co.uk), as it was only £5 more than the 1046, and had a greater flow rate. I figured this would give it a greater max. lift height (or whatever the spec is called, think 'head' comes into it somewhere). Seeing as my pump will have to pump water all the way up my GW802 case I wanted a fairly powerful one to keep the flow rate reasonable.

Another difference to note about the two is the fittings - the 1046 has an 11mm outlet and 13mm inlet I think, where as the 1048 has both 13mm. From what I've heard Eheim make great pumps, and you definitely don't want one failing on you :)

I got them both and have been very happy with them. The 1048 is great when you have a high placed reservoir or rad for its extra lifting ability. These pumps are designed for continuos duty in expensive aquariums (unlike some of the cheaper fountain pumps) so you know the quality is good. The only problem I had with one of them was with the 1046. I screwed a brass fitting into the inlet side and cracked the plastic horn....I later fixed it with JB weld so be careful not to overtighten. Another curious note is that they both use the same mounting plate.

cool i think i am going to go with the 1048cause i justr built a case that is massive and will need the extra head

if you are getting too much flow(doubtful) you can use a clamp on the outlet hose and tighten it to reduce the flow.

I run an Eheim 1046 myself in an Inwin Q600, and it has plenty of head pressure if your lines are less than 3' long. (My pump was in the bottom, and my radiator was top-exhausted.) Got it for $546 from Pet Warehouse.

The 1250 is the Ehiem to go for if you want plenty of flow. You really need all 1/2" tubing and fittings to do it justice though.
