View Full Version : t-bred 1800, 1700, or palomino 2100
I'm soon going to build my first computer. Ill either buy the palomino 2100, in which case i would not overclock, or the t-bred 1700 or 1800, in which case i would.
Question 1: If i overclocked with the 1700, would i be able to reach about the same speed as the 1800, with equal stability?
Question 2: The 2100 runs at around 1.73 default. I hear the 1700 and 1800 reach upwards of 2.0ghz OCing, but as it would be my first time, do u think i would have difficulty just surpassing the 1.73ghz of the 2100?
Question 3: If i did not overclock at all, would the t-bred 1800 possess any advantages over the 2100 palomino?
Any other feedback regarding anything i might not yet be aware of would also be appreciated. I was also recommended the a7n8x as far as nforce2 motherboards, however from this forum im getting the vibe that if i overclocked, epox would be more stable?

It depends largely on luck, but a 66MHz overclock should be easy enough and not cause too much instability.

Again, it depends on several things. Thoroughbreds come unlocked ( I think), so thats a great advantage. 1.73GHz, on a good chip, is a good possibility, 266Mhz overclock shouldn't be too hard. But, if you increase FSB the RAM and PCI cards may affect your overclocking. Cooling is also very important.

Umm....not really... I dont think so. It is a newer chip, but I'm not completely sure how it differs from the palomino.

Both Asus and Epox are good brands. try checking out some reviews.

I'd wait a few weeks as the Tbred Bs 1700 and 1800+ should hit the market very soon, and will propably reach speeds of 2GHz at stock voltage or at a really small increase and run much cooler, so with a 1700+ a 800MHz overclock would not need a promedia or phasechange cooling and insane volts
thanks both of you. i hadn't realized the Bs would come out so soon-- im not quite clear on its advantages though. it doesn't heat up as easily or something, or its more stable when OCing?
this would probably be just speculation on your part, but since im sure you're far more familiar with price trends upon hitting the market, any idea as to what the price will be for the t-bred bs 1700 and 1800?

Similar pricing to the current XP1600+ and XP1700+ otherwise non-overclocking mainstream computer users will go for the cheaper Palominos and the Tbred wont sell.

Tbred B's will obviously come out once the supply of A's has dried up - as to when that will be general thinking is in the next few weeks but its dependent as I said on the A's being sold out first. Pricing will be the same as A's
