I'm looking to see if I can get a decent-yet affordable-sound card that can do 2.1/4.1/5.1(I only really care about 2.1) and has an optical out. Now most of the cards I see confuse the heck out of me. I'm looking at a mobo with no digital outputs, but DO I need an optical out from the mobo to do this? I didn't think so, but for some reason I'm getting really confused.
I saw the AOpen AW850D on newegg.com for under $25, and if this card by itself will give me the optical i/o added onto my system that's all I want. Unless you really know it's crap. I have a fairly good multi-thousand dollar surround sound system to hook it up to, and I would like it to function well. Also, would you know whether this or some other card truely sends 5.1 signal out of the digital outs?
