Hi,

I'm thinking about building a pc for my friend, however he wants it after christmas - how much do you think prices will go up regarding memory; and will cpu prices go up or down?

Thanks.

CPU prices should continue to fall, not to sure about memory, but I can't remember hearing anything that will make them go up in price

It's a supply and demand situation. December is one of the (if not the) strongest months for PC sales, and as such the typical downward spiral of component prices slows. Some items which are subject to commodity pricing rules (such as ram) actually increase in cost during this period. It's not a huge factor, but the demand dwindles the supply and the laws of economics kick in and the prices go up.

Might be some good Christmas sales also. I know there were some sweet deals over the TG holiday

So at most would you say memory for a 256mb stick of 2700 would go up about £20?

Actually, that's only relevant in OEM sales. Part sales are actually much higher in early summer.

Prices on some stuff will increase gradually, starting in november till just after christmas. Memory, and CPU's are two things I can think of off the top of my head that usually fluctuate the most.
