Can anyone advise on normal operating temps for an Athlon 1400 running Win XP?
I am asking because my system is randomly rebooting and wondered if it is a heat issue.
Thanks

I don't have an Athlon 1400 but I know that if you are running under 48 celsius at load heat should not be causing reboots. My xp2000 plus oc'ed to 1.8 ghz runs very stable at that temperature.

Those late thunderbirds are known to have temps in the 50C+ range. That very well might be enough to do that. Do you have any way of checking your temps?

Usually temps should be kept at 50C or below, the lower the better. The T-birds have been known to run hot and if your using a retail HSF(or similar) I wouldn't be suprsied if the temps are out of control. Let us know what your temps are so we can better diagnose the problem.

Thanks all for your extremely swift replies. My processor is running at between 55 and 61 deg C according to my MBM 5 software. I have made no mods to the machine since purchasing from Evesham Computers ie original cooling.

hmmmm... that seems to be pushing it. If you have the means of getting a better cooling setup I would recomend it. Even if heat turns out not to be the issue, you will add to the usefull life of your chip.
