View Full Version : Silly question... pulling the retail clamps off motherboard to add the waterblock?

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but it is often the easy ones that mess me up.

I have a new P4 system 2.4b that I have tested with the stock cooler.. now its time to put on the waterblock... just one question...

How do I take the stock cooler "shell" that comes with the motherboard off? It seems to be attached with white plastic lugs or bolts or "pointythingies" (TM) or something into the black frame / bracket? I would like to be able to take it off and still be able to put it back again, if I decide to go back to air cooling or sell it or something...

The last time I had to try and take those white little studs off a motherboard was when I ripped out the support frame for my slot1 bx board to allow the bracket for a celeron to be placed on an old bx board... never could use those plastic "bolts" or whatever you call them again. I pretty much trashed them taking them out.

Any suggestions? do I have to "Squeeze" them through the motherboard or something?

Thanks

look on the back of the mobo i think a peg sticks through if so it should have a slit cut in it. if it does squeeze it with needle nose pl;iars ur fingers whatever. and it should pop off u know what i mean like a gpu or chipset cooler has... ...oh and just be careful with ur mobo.

p.s. i cvould be wrong never played with a p4 not even once.

ok dont do that~ :) LOL j/k thats one way~ but if you notice they are grey pegs and have heads on the upside of the motherboard, grab THAT with a NN pliers and pull up and out and then remove!

Thanks all will give it a try....
Yeah, I was sort of at a loss for words to describe what I remembered seeing in a motherboard that had already been installed in the case...

I am going to try to take those "pointythingies (TM)" off tomorrow so I can install that copper "thi-me-mi-jigger" (TM) in the right spot and hopefully make my speedythingy, um, more speedy-like. :)

Just wish those "watcha-ma-callit" clear tube thingy's would bend tighter without kinking... ."Clear-um-stuff" 60 is more collapsable than I had thought it would be.

Oh well, perserverence leads to, um perservering.. :)

(man I need some sleep :) )

Just FYI, those (and other such attachment "thingies") are known as "christmas trees". Appropriate at this time of year, eh?:D
