Where to begin....(and yes, I've been through the stickied thread in this forum, hence the reason for this post :) )

It all started some days ago, when, while in windows, my monitor synch suddenly went out of range (first time in the 7 months since I've built this rig) and I was forced to reboot. No problems for some time, and the IE started giving me very frequent errors (everything else working normally)......the final thing was (without warning and with a system temp of 24 degrees, cpu temp 32 degrees) while in IE I got the 'checkered' pattern, although of a more 'severe type' compared to the one described in the thread in this forum, since I was unable to see ANY part of my desktop behind the lines....
Reboot immediately, and this happens in boot-up screens and hardware detection screens as well...:(
Waited a couple of minutes, booted the system up and no errors whatsoever.....looped 3DMark, UT2003, played RTCW, JKII since....NOTHING...I can not replicate this problem

The question is: is my card showing the symptoms? (if it was just in windows I'd blame software/drivers, but this thing happened during the boot-up screens as well  )

Is it RMA time?:(

ANY (and all) input appreciated

I would suspect the card. Is it overclocked? It may be overheating or the fan on the card may be going bad and slowing or stopping intermitently.

Is it overclocked?

Not even in the least I'm afraid......and like I said, it's only done this once so far.....the card itself has not given me ANY other form of stability problems :(

could be 64mb of the 128mb ram just died and now its only using 64mb ram. could also be the card is falling out of the agp slot, try removing it and seating it back in tight!

I've had a similar problem to this with my GF4 Ti4600. The problem is the seating of the card in the AGP slot. I give it a wiggle and reboot, then everything is fine. It seems like this couldn't be a problem, unless I move my computer, or something. Unfortunately, it is. It just happens from time to time. Most of the time, it happens after I've been inside the computer working on something. Sometimes, however, it just happens out of the blue. Sometimes the OS will lock up, sometimes it won't.

OK...card reseated and fan cleaned up to gleaming status :D

Now all I can do is wait...:(

Btw, can any of you recommend any AGP driving values for the card on the KX7-333 mobo? (that you know that work without problems? ;) )

Hi,

I have had exactly the same problem except mine crashed windows completely and rebooted ok but I thought I had killed my graphics card :O.
It has only happened twice and both times it was in IE!The only way I found to stop it was to reboot completely as a soft reset would not work.
I must say thought that I was O/Cing my card and I am now running totally stock.Just a note to add I bought the card from a good friend who always O/C's everything (probably even his toaster ;))and he had removed the standard H/S and cleaned it up and applied some AS3 to it and I wasnt running a very agressive O/C either.

Hope this of some help

Ditto here :(

Does Gainward have offices in the UK? (because I just sent an email just in case to their european headquarters that are in Germany...)

I believe that they do but I cant find any web addy for them but I have found a UK postal address.

I see that you have not mentioned wether or not you have O/Ced your card?

To be honest I only gained 400 points in doing it and I dont really think it was worth it for the possble problems it can cause.

No overclocking ;)

Oh well, the problem has not reappeared (although I am getting crashes to desktop on ALL 3d apps after ~50 minutes - 1 hour as I quite often have  )

When it rains, it pours :D

I get this problem fairly often too. It usually happens when I am just sitting at the desktop. Updating my drivers and my VIA 4in1's hasn't helped either.

I can't really RMA the card either. I don't have the original box. And I don't have another video card so I would be computerless until I got a card back.

And I don't have another video card so I would be computerless until I got a card back.

Try borrowing another one from a m8 (at least that's what I'm probably going to do before I RMA this puppy)

I also noticed, you're in the US, where RMAs I think don't usually take too long....I'm in the UK and for an RMA I'll need to send the card back to Gainward Germany (or my retailer, who will eventually need to send it to Germany himself....)..all in all a 3-4 week story  :(
