Hello,
I Heard the stories of people overclocking the 1700's real good and my boss ended up getting a new one on accident so I took it off his hands. I was just wondering if it was the kind I can unlock easily. I see that there are no pits on the L1 so im thinking it may be unlocked or unlockable easy. Its a retail boxed CPU and if its highly overclockable im not going to bother even putting it in. The chip has the newer black sticker type of thing for the markings are :

AXDA1700LT3C 9290238270536
AIUGA 0244WPAW

Its the first time Ive had my hands on a chip like this (Xp1700 w/ the black sticker), it looks so similar to the XP2400 I put in a machine. If anyone could let me know what to do on this thing it'd be greatly appreciated. I have a setup missong the processor but its an ECS K7AMA mobo. Let me know what you guys think :0)

Hi. Welcome to the forums.

ECS boards are great for running stock but have difficulty running stable at overclocked speeds.

Hopefully the information in the following link answers some of the more general questions you might have:

The chip comes unlocked. However the MB has no adjustments for multipliers. Read Pinky's link everything you need to know is there.

Hey,
I got an xp1800 that is an older one with a locked multiplier in an abit KR7A-Raid mobo, Would you guys think itd be better to put the xp1700 in that board and overclock it and put the 1800 in the ECS ? The KR7a is a gaming system primarily.. let me know what you guys think..

Definitely switch those out. You shoud get some good results with that 1700 on the Abit board with some decent ram.
Slap the 1800 on the ECS and focus your attention on the other system. But go ahead and unlock the 1800 if you can.

I got the proc in the ECS now .. I couldnt wait to test it out. Its running at about 90deg Farenheit wich is kool since my 2100 wont go below 104 :( let me tell you.. I dont know why I went for a P4 system also .. AMD blows anything away... O well .. ill switch it out tonight and see what goes :) thx guys!

Heh.. i dug up the info on the week of the processor.. it was made the 44th week, (Week of Day 10) of november wich was like a month ago.. totally cool heh.. dunno why im this hyped :) In my DDR memory stock pile i have 5 sticks of 256mb DDR and one 512.. the 512 first off is Kingston with infineon chips, as for the 256's i have 3 samsung but I think they all (including the other 2)are using Micron chips. Shall i risk overclocking ye` Micron chips? Let me know what you think..

Micron chips will be my first try... the infineon probably won't clock as high.

What about special cooling.. all i got is a Speeze heasink that looks no better than the stock hsf and a coolermaster DP5 .. Any cheap solutions ?

Nothing "cheap", but even the better heatsinks are selling for a lot less than they were just months ago.

I would start looking here (http://www.svcompucycle.com) for some of the better pricing on cooling products.

Take a look at the sk6. They had them for $12.99 w/ Fan, Hard to beat.
