format a hdd while in xp?

Can you format a hdd while you are running xp on another? I have xp loaded on one hdd, and would like to format the second while still running xp.
Is this posable?

go into admin tools\disc management\ format it? you may have to mod your boot.ini to reflect the loss of sec o/s.. for cosmetic reasons only..
unless you have something sharing off that patition, i never had a problem..
