Yesterday I was in windows and my display went blank and the monitor shut off. Then a couple seconds later the display came back on but it was a super low resolution. Then it happened again and rebooted my computer. After this happened a couple times when I would start my computer the post screen would have while vertical bars or random characters going through it. I took the 4600 out and put in an old GF 2card and things worked fine. So I’m pretty sure that after 8 months of flawless operation my PNY GeForce 4 4600 has crapped out on me.
Has anyone had a similar problem? I'm considering sending the card back for replacement since they offer a "Lifetime Replacement Warrantee" advertised right on the box.

Yep, my MSI 4600 did the same exact thing only mine was only 6 months old.

So what did you do? I just called PNY technical support and went through about 20 menus just get a recorded message saying that the wait is more than 20 minutes so leave a message to have someone call you back. So far I'm not impressed with the crappy technical support.

I finally got through to someone from PNY Tech Support. He said that from the time I mail off my card till the time I get a new one is going to be about 3 weeks! Its going to be a long 3 weeks. I have no patience for stuff like this:(

I dont even remember a geforce4 8 months ago  well this means Nvidia has abandoned their 6 month cycle and now releases only once a year

Were you overclockin your PNY card? I've been wanting to overclock my PNY 4400 card that my wife bought me when they first came out (i was pusin for the 4600 but my wife was already ****ed about having to pay $300 dollars for the 4400). I know the gainward and leadtek's are supposed to OC pretty good but I haven't really heard anything about PNY

I tried overclocking my box for a couple hours but I set it back to stock speeds because my motherboard doesn't have a PCI/AGP lock (850 chipset). Then it crapped out a couple weeks after. I don't think the brief OC had anything to do with it going bad. Other than that I've been completely happy with my 4600 until it died the other night.

Same thing happened to me with my Radeon 32mb DDR. For some reason if shut off. I rebooted only to see numbers and letters flashing all over the screen.
Very disturbing.

sorry about youre card!
i done some research on a few brands of g-f4 ti series cards befor i bought mine. and i noticed that pny has the slowest core clock speed and memory speed of any other card. pny uses cheap parts. that is why they sell so cheap. the only thing good on the card is the nvidia chipset. no disrespect intended, but pny sucks!
my opinion, if you can, since the card craped out! get a refund and spend a few more dollars and get a nice card. it is worth it in the long run. alot less headaches!
goodluck!

They didnt abandon it...they just couldnt get the NV30 out on time due to problems...it was supposed to be out in September...right after the R300, heh

GO intergrated graphics, you know you want to!
No, seriously, just claim on the warrenty
Hi Guys
I`ve had my PNY4600 since June 21st that makes it 6 months old!
I bought it because Tomshardware reveiwed a few cards & spec. wise there seemed to be nothing in it? But the PNY was the quietest, thats the only reason I got this make & yes it was the cheapest.
I have not overclocked this card at all. Hardly any need with a bench score of 11,572 (Mad Onion) I am very pleased with this card I just hope it holds out untill my next upgrade?

pny should rename themselves to "puny" LOL I even pronounce it "puny" hehe. as for the geforceFX I think it was a good idea to delay that card and milk the geforce4 series some more. Nvidia makes more money that way and besides at $599 the geforceFX will be king!

I'm ****ed about the card crapping out but PNY is going to replace it. I didn't think it was that bad of a card comparred to the others. Check out this review:

But overall I guess you get what you pay for.

True, good point.
Although, sometimes for "pay for" and don't "get" :D.
It seems like this time of "pay for/get" combination is much more common than "don't pay a lot, get a lot" like my BRAND NEW, unused 2nd hand 19" monitor for £15 :D

Well I got my replacement PNY GF 4 4600 today in the mail. It took 3 weeks. I mailed it off with the retail box and software that it came with. The replacement card that I got back in the mail today doesn't look like the one that I originally bought. It looks like a plain reference card.
This is what the original one looked like:

The replacement card that I recieved today looks like this but without the stick on top of the heatsink. Its just clear.

I don't care what it looks like as long as it does it's job!

so does the replacement work or did they send you the geforce4 mx460 instead?

So far the card works just fine. I scored 13,655 points on #3D Mark.
Some of the cards don't have heatsinks because the ram used on the GF4 cards doesn't get hot enough to warrant the added cost of heatsinks.
