Yeah later on tonight I plan to install the Sk7 hs on a Epox 8rda+ motherboard, using a 1700+ xp cpu. The case I'll be using is the Antec SLK3700AMB (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?description=11-129-122)
Well I was shocked when I saw the sk7 My goodness it's flippin huge and pretty heavy. I can't imagine what the Slk-800 looks like. I never actually own a heatsink this big,so I'm a little scared that I might screw something up. The fan I'll be using is a medium panaflo fan.
So do you guys have any tips while installing it? Should I do it while the motherboard is not attached to the case? Which way does it go,well it appears it can only go one way I assume.
What are these extra white pads for?
Thanks for any information provided.
Wow  I'm still in shock from the size of it!! It sure is purty though. An wow this epox board has a nice layout.

i would take the motherboard out of the case. ive read in reviews that this heatsink is kind of hard to mount because the screwdriver slot on the mounting sys is small. you should use a butterknife to install it if you dont have a small enough screwdriver.

Them white pads are to stick to the bottom of the heatsink so that it stays pretty flat on the core. The SK7 will miss the pads on the cpu as it is so thin and so be sure to use these to lower risk of damage to the core. You should use about four. One near each corner.
Go slow and all shall be well. Make sure that the beveled side of the heatsink goes towards the raised portion of the zif socket.
I didn't know what the pads were for either, at first I thought they were some type of thermal paste pad, but then I saw the little syringe with thermal paste in it. Anyway, I didn't use the pads at all and used AS3 with my Athlon XP 1600.
All is well.

It's a bit silly that they didn't include any instructions with their heatsinks.

I would save the pads and next time you install the fan make sure to use them. Many a core have been broken by these HS.

So its best to put the white pads close to the core. Just to be on the safe side.

So I don't have to remove the ones on the cpu?
Like you said stick these 4 white pads on the corners of the heatsink. Then procede to install. These white pads arn't gonna stay on their right, they are just acting as a spacer then I should be able to remove them right?

I might end up picking up an SK-7 myself, so I'm curious about thish as well. Given the SK-7, pads, paste, and arctic silver 3, how do you go about installing it? Slap on the pads and the silver, or just the silver, or ...? Definately don't want to risk messing the core up, but I also want the silver on that sucker.

I was able to install my sk-7 while my mobo was still in the case.
I found it a lot easier to install then my old thermoengine hs.
I only figured out what the 4 pads are for only after I already installed the hs. I'll use the pads next time I remove the hs.
I fortunately have a screwdriver w/ a head small enough to fit perfectly in the lug's screwdriver hole.
I just got the sk-7 with 1 white square pad and a rectangle black/white pad . Umm should I use them at all ? or just apply AS3 on the core and hs surface ?

To install the heatsink place that 4 white pads on the edges or wherever you feel like putting them.
Then proceed to put either AS3, or the white goop onto the sink. Actually it may be easier to do this before you put the pads on but either way will work.
If your using the thermal pad just stick it on after you stick the pads onto the bottom.
Oh yeah...you won't need to remove the pads on the processor as the sink completely misses them lol

Thank you for the information Man. They should put this info on their website.
Edit
With your guys help I got it on. It appears to be on their good an in contact with the core. Now I got to hook it up to see this bad boy in action.
At first I used a small screw driver but it was too small and I almost got the mobo. Then I moved on to a regular sized screwdriver, but with a small flat head. It work perfect and those white pads do add that extra sense of not crushing anything.
Now I got to figure out this weird fan clip do hickey, but lucky I got this thing on. Also apply arctic silver also using a old credit card. I notice this hs show you exactly where to put thermal paste. If you look you will see 4 tiny holes. A great idea for them.
the sk-7 comes with pads? And it doesnt make contact with the cpu pads?
Damn why didnt I hear about this when I got my sk-7. Its been on my cpu with no pads.
I dont even remember if mine came with pads... i gotta go look in the box. How weird.
I will have to do it next time I take the heatsink off....
SO I should put the pads on the heatsink corners or what?
You arnt too clear on that.
I think it'll be fine as long as its already installed...
ya but I do travel with my computer on occasion...(not very far 2 miles) But It is in my trunk...(snug) no probs yet... but still I dont like taking risks that are unecessary.

Should be fine....it engages all six lugs. I would lay the thing horizontally with the heatsink facing up to minimize risks.
oh ya I do.
I mean had I not read this thread I would have not known and it probably would have been just fine. just it kinda makes me worry.
So next time I need to take off the heatsink ill see about those pads. but Ill try not to let it get to me.

Found this post just in time. My new SK-7 came in today (along with a Vantec Nexus!!). Opened the box and was amazed to find no Instructions. None on the website either.
I think I am all set though. Will be installing tomorrow.
