what recent game has the most demanding graphics or sweet visuals so i can really test out my new card? ive tried it with serious sam 2 (it has some cool effects), gta3, and medal of honor... they all look good and i get great frame rates but i was wondering if there is any other games that would be really hard on the card? I'm not up on anything really recently released other than vice city and i expect that looks the same as the first one.

GTA3, Battlefield 1942 or for an older game Max Payne

Thats my .02 cents

Morrowind will bring most cards to thier knee's with all the eyecandy on (1600X1200 max supported resolution).
Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast looks awsome with a good videocard.

if i think of any more i'll post them.

thanks... my monitor cant do 1600x1200 but morrowmind is still a good suggestion, some eyecandy is pretty much what im looking for. i hadnt heard of jedi knight either. thanks. any more?

i don't know if you are only looking for FPS's but i'll post these anyway.

MS Rallisport Challenge (i think Nvidia used this game for a demo of the Geforce FX)

IL2 Sturmovik (one of the best flight simulators ever made)

Well, just to put my 2 cents in, No On Lives Forever 2 has pretty good graphics. And by the way, nice choice on girlfriends (hot).

UT2003 can actually slow my system down when I crank everything up.

My friend just bought Battlefield 1942 and it gave his Radeon a hard time. Also, you can tell the display at my cyber cafe is sketchy when playing bf1942, and I think they use ti 4600s.

I say UT 2003 if you like shooters or Morrowind if you like RPGs... both games with max settings can make some systems crawl and have some nice eye candy to show for it

I crank everything all the way up, and BF1942 is smooth as glass on my system

BF1942, UT2K3, JKIIand Rallisport Challange. I have them all and they all have impressive graphics.

ut2003 definatly has some nice eye candy. Played in the Asheron's Call 2 beta and that game has a seriously wicked engine. Alot of my friends said it was sluggish on their machine.

BF1942 is a cool game but I don't really think its all that demanding though.

UT2003.. at this time is the most demanding software for my pc (as shown below), I cant even come close to maxing out all the graphic settings (and theres a bunch of them).

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 is demanding too, but this games not worth buying.

I think if you really want to test the full capabilities of your video card, you'll need a new processor and a new monitor.

Syberia
Publisher: DreamCatcher Interactive
Developer: Microids

I bet no one has heard of this game, I've never played it but damn does it look good.

Clicky Clicky...Pictures (http://gamespot.com/gamespot/filters/products/screenindex/0,11104,545345,00.html)

Syberia features animated characters moving against largely static yet gorgeous 2D backgrounds. You control Kate by simply moving the cursor and clicking once to make her walk to a location or twice to make her run

heh would be nice if the game was completely 3D rendered...

Stumpjumper5200
12-22-02, 03:42 PM
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Games like that aren't a rendered true 3D world. Almost like a glorified .BMP.

does anyone know if hitman 2 uses any dx8 features? I have it on my GF2 right now, looks amazing and runs silky smooth at 1024 with graphics maxed. Will it look better in two days, when i put in my R9500 Pro?

UT2k3 is the big daddy of graphics right now. It'll bring almost any machine to its knees when maxed out. Morrowind will tax a system pretty good too. Splinter Cell looks great, but isn't all that hardware intensive(I've heard that people with a GF4MX have been able to max it out at 1024x768).

I would have to agree, Asheron's Call 2 looks very good and is the most demanding game I've played. Too bad the game stinks. Its got tons of eye candy options, but I wouldn't pay $50 bucks for it (plus $13 a month after the first free month).

wow, those are a lot of suggestions... hehe, thanks though. :) as for new monitor/processor, im not going that route yet. everything i do on my computer takes nothing more than a second. as for gameing i know those would be the bottlenecks right now, but when my bottlenecks leave me with around 60+ fps no matter what the settings are, i think i will keep saving for a while. they say technically anything over 25fps the eye can't even differentiate between, although it seems to be a little higher than that to me when things look perfectly smooth. i do hate my monitor though, its an old gateway evo500 or something like that. the pictures look good enough for me though, new monitors are just so expensive and unless im really gonna pay out for a good one, the image quality doesnt vary enough to get me to pull out my wallet.

Maybe I should start a new thread and ask this, but the graphics in 3d mark 2001 are awesome, I was wondering if anyone knew what games those are, just got my new computer that might actually play some new ones :D

heh wonder why... poor programming?? the graphics are good, but not good enough to have to run them at crap settings on a monster machine just to be playable...

IMO the game is too demanding to be considered to play..

Actually I think they really ARE that good. Its a simply amazing engine IMHO. With the settings turned down it even looks great. I mean its a MMORPG not a shooter. In addition to the graphics load there is alot of processing and memory considerations just because of the large # of players running about.

I'm not happy about the slow downs but I can understand why they happen. When Im in cavendo and there are 50+ people in the same area and most of them on screen I get slow downs.I also get big slow downs when 10+ people are onscreen in large open areas.

You could also turn on 4X anti aliasing and run at say 1200x1000.

MOH, Jedi Knight, NOLF and 3d Mark200SE are the prettiest games I've seen so far.

I have BF 1942 and it IS a resource pig but is not that nice looking. Blackhawk down and Commanche 4 are resource pigs that are mediocre looking too.

All of the games I mentioned have a demo that u can DL for free.

Doom 3 alfa (that will bring a 3gig p4 with a 9700 to its knees)

It's fairly easy to find. and its so frigin amazing.

Stumpjumper5200
12-23-02, 06:06 PM
Yes, it will.

But part of the reason is that it's poorly coded compared to an actual release version of a game. The alpha most likely has all kinds of debugging code and incomplete parts, as you'd notice some error messages popping up in the console.

zabomb4163
12-23-02, 10:11 PM
but as far as graphics testing on a comp. nothing comes close to matching Doom3. Even with a 9700 the game only reaches 65fps

Aliens vs. Predator 2 is is really GPU bound and is great for a good scare!

Without a doubt SOLDIER OF FORTUNE 2...

it is because of that game that I had to take out my 1600+ @ 172fsb (~1.85g) the ONLY piece of software that wouldn't run with my Machine that OC'd.

run in Single player mode with all AA, ANSIO, res settings at their highest, I guarentee even a 9700 won't break 10fps....

make sure to find some of those scenes with wavy tall grass too, every excellent graphics both single and multiplayer. Especially if you like gore :)

let us know what you try and your results. If you need help showing FPS in SOF2 let me know via PM...

Asheron's Call 2 has the most technically advanced graphics atm. (Full DX 8.1 pixel shader use). It's an mmorpg so with high graphics settings you can see a loooong way and it will bring any system to its knees.

IMO, UT2003 almost looks as good (but has no bump mapping, no pixel shading) and runs better (probably a more efficient engine).

Well, I can say that F1 2002 has given me my highest load temps yet.....56C!!!
