is the radeon 9000 any better than an 8500??

The R9000 has a better shader unit, but half the tmu's of the R8500. Nearly all games run faster on the R8500. Maybe Serious Sam runs faster on the R9000, but that's probably about it....
I'd pick the R8500 over the R9000, especially if your talking the non-pro version....
R8500 destroys the nonpro R9000, and beats the R9000PRO in nearly all benchies...just not shader intensive ones:)

ya the 8500 is a better choice, buy a 8500LE 128 DDR flash bios to regular 8500 128. Link to the thread at rage3d.com is down right now I will post later. Then overclock the card to 300/300 using its stock cooling with no problems

you now have a great card fer cheap that will play any game out and those to come without any real problems and half decent eye candy settings on
