View Full Version : Overvolting DRCG's

In my chieftec 340watt psu there is this little pot meter where i can increase the voltage of the 3.3volt and the 12volt. Few months ago i upped the 3.3v to 3,5v in my psu thus upping the voltage of my abit th7II. I thought it would increase stability when overclocking. I also increased the voltage of the 12volt to 12,5volt.
No luck though, my P4 2ghz died. After that I got a C1 2,4B. I was wondering if i could do 133Mhz 4x. My previous limitations with the 2Ghz where at 127Mhz 4x for my mem(my cpu could go higher if the mem was set to 3x).
So i did the usual trail and error and tried it at 133Mhz 4x. You know what?! it BOOTED! ran memtest for about 3hours, no errors... doing this I eventually came to a whopping (by my standards) 141Mhz fsb with the mem(pc1128).
So i was wondering could i have 'overvolted' my DRCG thus resulting in a accieving higher DRCG clockspeeds?
Is this possible? Or have i been touched by the hands of god?
I have absolutely no idea where the DRCG draws its power from.
So i am asking can anyone test/confirm this on a Th7II?
btw i am new here, hi! :D

Is this one of those really slow forums? Dont mind though, just asking. :)

to be honest i dont even know what drcg is, but it sounds like your ready for a mother board voltage mod. and your right at this forum you wont get much help in those areas. try here:

id hazard a guess that these boys have already done it seeing how your board has been around for a bit
welcome to the forums

Thanks for the site, i'll check it out now.
DRCG are Direct Rambus Clock Generators.
They generate the clock frequencies for the rambus if i am not mistaken.

well if i've not forgoten i think the DRCGs to run on the 3.3V lines but the thing is the 3.3V on the mobo are regulatored by a regulator IC. i dun think the3.3Vio lines on the mobo will change much if you mod the v line of the 3.3V on your psu. but increasing the 3.3v on the psu might make the V ouput of the reg ic stabler which means stabler 3.3 Vio lines on the mobo so actually you're not overvolting the DRCG but overvolting the Reg ic but that might help some.

The VIO voltage on my Hardware monitor is an actual 3,5Volt.
But stablizing the IC wouldn't give this much of a boost (127 to 140). would it?
I'll have a look in the ICS DRCG specsheets. Maybe i can find something. This is very interesting :)

The specsheets say that the absolute maximum is 4Volts. I think i'll try 3.65volts.
YOu can read it here: http://www.icst.com/products/pdf/9212-03.pdf

your overvolting the ram clock generator? i dont get it. is it not producing a good pulse? a few years ago some of the cpu clock generators could be helped by adding a heat sink to clean up the output. good luck with your prodject. let us know how it turns out

hhm is there a volt mod for a enermax 550 i did a volt mod but thats for the 5 volt and 12 volt so it doesn't help me pump up the 3.3 volt its now at 2.8volt and thats low

2,8 is indeed very low. In my PSU there where 2 POT's inside, i dont know if enermax also has it. YOu have to screw open your PSU to see. But be carefull! THere are a lot of high voltages stuff inside it.

yeah I know I did the mod on the 12 and 5 volt line in my enermax there are no pot in it but my 3.3 line doesn,t go any higher so i am searching a volt mod for that.
Ore if its possible to do a mod on my mobo abit th7 ii raid I done the vcore mod and the rdrimm but i can't find the voltage regulater for the 3.3 line (I/O) and on the net there not much to find anything about it

Some guys think, and also I, think that the 3,3v line is directly drawn from the psu. so there arnt any IC's/regulators to meddle with. What you can try is, is another psu from a frend or so.
Hope it helps!
