View Full Version : Conflict with exhaust placement?

I have a side blowhole right over the hsf and there is a space for an exhaust at the rear of the case perpendicular to the hsf. Right now, this space is vacant. I'm wondering whether if I were to place an exhaust fan there, will it make the hsf less effective as both of them will be fighting for air from the side blowhole?

I would think that yes, it would make it less effective.
The airstream would be moving straight from the side fan to rear fan and exiting the case. None of it would make ot the heatsink.
If your power supply has 2 fans (so 1 would be directly above the HSF), I would think this is better.
If your PSU doesn't have 2 fans, i would consider looking at possibly upgrading it.

Put a closed duct between the HSF and side hole, then the rear exhaust will aid the flow through and no conflicts.

Not to worry, its all good. I've figured out a solution.

I had the same conflict but didn't have the side blowhole. Ended up ducting that smart fan to the rear holes and put a 120 (7v) exhaust out over the DVD (forwards). Sounds odd but with 2 extra 80 intakes from below case stays at 19*C load/idle and no visible modding.

I have two 80mm side blowholes, 2 80mm to blowholes and one 80mm intake in my drive bay.
