Would it ruin the efficiency of a heat sink (CPU heatsink) if it were painted?

Plus it would start leeching off fumes when it heats up...

If you have a plain Aluminum one you could have it deep anodised to say red, blue, green, gold, black ect ect and i don't think this effects the properties of the heat sink

No, anodizing doesn't affect the performance of the heatsink, but you still have to find a place to do it. And it's probably pretty expensive. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Actually you might be able to have it done for free, check ing your local phone book for metal works places, or call your local machine shop, they will know of places to get anodizing done. Assuming you are only doing it for color, they will acid dip it and then anodize it for you.

When i lived in the UK there was a big thing to have anodizide bike parts and they are damn expensive ... i looked a place up in the phone book and they asked me to bring the parts down .... he looked at them and laughed.. He thought i ment a whole bike! So he did the lot for free as he was all ready using that colour after that i just called him to see if he was using that colour and then iwould ride down and have the work down.....cost me a pint every time! The Brits are nice folk!

I love free stuff. Why would you want you heatsince painted? The fan would kinda block the view. Maybe get the waterblocks done though...

passive heatsinks, such as the northbridge heatsink, or ramsinks, or others that dont need fans....yes, I know that a lot of northbridge heatsinks have fans now, but mine doesn't....heh.
You CAN do it at home, but it can be dangerous. Here's a link...Home anodizing (http://www.maxxtraxx.com/tech/tech006.shtml)
