Great game, but latly I went back to Quake2. BF942 is fun, but it seriously compromised by smacktards.

I don't know if it is good. Do you like first person shoot-'em-ups? If you want a good WWII game this is the last thing you should buy. You want a good FPS and great on-line multiplayer game, then this is a very good choice.

whats up with it as a WW2 game? its set in WW2 aint it???

what is a good WW2 game? - MOHAA bows down to this...that game is old and the Omaha level is nowhere near as good as the one on BF1942...apart from that... I have Janes WW2 Fighters and it dont compare, DOD is absolute gay, there was some RPG set in WW2 I had as a demo which I remember being so unbelievably crap...so as WW2 games go this is the best I have come accross

The demo seems to be crap. I'm always hearing about problems with the demo that just don't show up in retail version.

Kinda stupid to not have a decently working demo, but at least the retail version works a lot better.

Beef up on system memory too. The more memory you have the faster the maps load.

Of course Jane's doesn't compare, it's a flight sim, this is a first person shooter that is based in WWII. Since when did they have Wespe's in North Africa? The British never had B-17 in North Africa. I've seen someone play for only twenty minutes so I didn't have time to investigate everything. The key to the Battle of Stalingrad had nothing to do with fighting in Stalingrad, but Russain encirclement, General Erich von Manstien's near miracle to open it back up. He got within like a few miles of actually breaking through. Why they put Katushyas on the limited scale battles I have no idea, they were never a direct fire weapon. I don't how you could ever realistically re-create a naval battle with this game engine I don't know. Was there even a Battle of Britian map, or a battle that deal with Germans crossing the Muese River in May 1940? Two of the most desicive battles of WWII. The Germans one one, lost the other, and they lost the war.

Is this a good, fun, and great multiplayer game? It is if you like FPS's, especially set WWII because you don't see that often. Do you want a game that is a fair and accurate representation of WWII? This game in my opinion doesn't do that in a long shot.

You want to experience how the fighting was there are much better games. I find Jane's much better, and Il-2 Sturmovik to be superior to this game, however they are flight sims, and to compare the two (three) is un-fair. The Panzer General series did a better job of showing WWII played out. What it could not do was show how better training, superior tactics could defeat a numerically and technically superior enemy. Close Combat series was pretty good. Great Naval Battles was great for naval combat. Silent Hunter 2 and Aces of the Deep were awesome submarine simulators. Talonsoft had some good WWII games. East Front II and West Front, much better than Panzer General series, could show some carnage, a battlefield litered with craters burning vehicles struin about, but no bloody bodies, sorry to disappoint. 12 o'clock High is an awesome strategic game for the air war over western europe. Combat Missions destroyed Close Combat, it owned the Panzer General Series, and embarassed the Front games. It is the flight sim of ground warfare, combined with the strategy of the Close Combat series. It rivals Il-2 it that fashion. It gives you action, strategy, and very accurately represents WWII in almost every fasset.

It depends what you play for, fun and the experience of an FPS, then BF1942 is the way to go. But if you want accuracy, and a good taste of WWII, there are much better games the will give that experience.

Yes I do hate BF1942 with a passion, but someone had to say the other side.

Almost forgot to mention Panzer Elite, a truely great tank sim, another game I'll buy before BF1942.

Sorry, but I felt that was the explanation I needed to give, because without it no one can understand why I'm so anal about this game.

Of course Jane's doesn't compare, it's a flight sim, this is a first person shooter that is based in WWII.

you then go on to compare this game to alot of games which arent FPS

T'wolves

Yeah I know, but there are a lot games to experience WWII different ways, most of which I think are a better experience of WWII than BF1942, I was gonna fix that, but I forgot to before I clicked the post button.

Maxvla
12-23-02, 09:51 PM
so i hope the multiplayer is fixed on the expensive version. cause the demo is absolutely horrid.

my average ping on the demo servers was 800

Lusankya

Max remember how new it was.. most ppl probably had crappy connections on their servers...

Now after time the servers have cleaned up and there are soem good ones

I found one on an OC48 or something that has massive 30+ vs 30+ wars. Battle of the Buldge really was a great map for that many players...

wilhelm310
12-24-02, 12:18 AM
i dont think you can put bf1942 down its a game not a sim of the
past they just took the guns n stuff to make it look like the past
if you want it to have real battles from the past then make some
mods based on that battle

IM DUMB SORRY

Damn right. This game chews up RAM. I have fairly conseritive settings when it comes to my pagefile. This game likes to try get Windows to add more almost every time it runs! I'll have to bump it up a bit before my LAN party this week.

I think I'ma start looking into a nice stick of 512 PC2100 to add to the 256 I already have :)

OC48gaming.com servers. They have the high player count server :), i think it's 64 player. With that many people, I still get a nice ping - sub 150, usually sub 100.

Usually admins on to kick the smacktards, but if they're not on, it can get pretty bad with the morons coming in.

gogamer.com has the game for 29 bucks 2 day shipping. However you only get the CD and cd-key. No retail box.

Very true. Don't bother with the manual, its absolute garbage. Not worth an xtra $30 for a box and a set of worthless paper.

And just for the sake of argument, there is no such thing as a WWII sim because to be a TRUE sim then certain teams would have to win certain battles. Don't know about anyone else but my idea of fun isn't to drop onto Midway as a jap and already know I lost. Same the other way around, drop as an ally and already know I win. Of course its not a true WWII sim, its supposed to be fun. By the same token as soon as you get killed once you can't play anymore cause...well...you're dead. Okay, now I'm just rambling. Sry, thats just my $.02 donation to all those who say "its not a good WWII sim.":D

I'll play on OC48 when I want to be in a big war.. otherwise I just pick whatever server is low ping and playing a map I like at the time

Beast_USA
12-25-02, 01:55 AM
LOW ping! YES

That's one bad thing about RTCW every time I pick the server with the lowest ping 8-10 it tells me my CD code is invalid!!!

I have two legal copies:mad:

If people need to steal a $30 or $40 game at least have the common courtesy to play on the high-ping servers:D
