This thread is not for an AMD vs. INTEL arguement...but this what I came across...this is a must read because some people will not believe it if you tell them...CLICK HERE 800MHz (http://hardware.earthweb.com/main/article/0,,12108_1560401_,00.html)

The big questions will be

a) when the heck will it actually exist
b) who in their right mind will shell out the wagon load of money needed to buy one

the article says it due out in Fall 2003..but you know once this drops the other Processors....this will be outrageous price

omg that is pimp.

The only things i see you are lacking, is phase change cooling and a 48x24x48 burner.

and how did you get your 9700 for 30 bucks?

We've been kicking this around for a couple of weeks in the Intel Mobo forum. The funny thing is, most of the guys who hang out there aren't too surprised by the news.

A lot of them are already pushing 170FSB (680 at quad speed) on air cooling with the 845E/PE and a Northwood P4. The Canterwood chipset is designed for the next-gen of procs (Prescott) which will be made on a 0.09 micron die. Cutting the die by almost a third compared to the Northwood P4's should put four gig and 800MHz FSB in easy reach.

(While it appears for now that Intel will stick with the Socket 478 layout so the Canterwood boards will be backwards compatible with the Northwood CPU's, don't expect to get 800MHz FSB running a Northwood proc. To get this baby to scream you'll have to pry open your wallet for a P5.)

Oh yeah, 4ghz proc.

How long do you think it will be before people try to OC it? :D

LMAO.

I wonder how far they could be OCed with such a small die..Imagine OC'ing a 4Ghz to over 6Ghz. Muahaha

I wonder how long it'll be before someone hits the Thz [ Terrahertz ]

Well Fall 2003 = Fall 2005 in Intel time.

I acutally beleive it will drop in the Fall....but for those Intel guys...when it does drop the prices of Intel's other chips will be really dirt cheap compared to what they are now...

but for us AMD people...I wonder what will AMD use to combat this? It really doesn't make a difference to me...my goal is have the best in each processor... a bad ass Intel along with a bad ass AMD :)

the 9700 was relatively free, i bought a geforce 2 mx for my server and they sent me a pimp ati 9700 , the 9700 is in the server now, when i get the 4600 that i bought in the classified section i'll put that in the 300mhz celeron server and put the 9700 in my main rig :D
I may get some PIMP 200GB 8MB cache diamondmax 9 two on raid, i'll wait a couple of months for the price to go down though

Ok so you videocard will be more powerfull than the computer in which it runs on :eh?:

how much do you guys think this 800mhz Quadpumped bus will cost all of us.

That's going to be a huuuuuge question. You AMD guys might want to sit down-maybe on a toilet-before you read this next line:

Everyone ready? The Gigabyte Granite Bay D-DDR boards are pre-ordering for $250 right now. Use your imagination to guess where the Asus will come in.

Some of that is price gouging, but not much. The street price after the intitial rush wears off is expected to be in the neighborhood of $180-200. Intel has always charged a small fortune for their server chipsets and because the GB is developed off of a server chipset, they're passing the joy down the line.

There is a chance Intel will debut the Canterwoods at a lower price than the GB. There is also a chance it will rain trout tomorrow. I think, and the evidence supports, that Intel is going to leave the under $130 motherboard market to SiS and Via and concentrate on luring buyers up to their high end boards with performance to match their stability. If nVidia gets into the P4/P5 market all bets are off, but as it sits now I think the PE/GE is going to be the last great cheap board from Intel for a while.

MSRP at release for the Canterwood boards: $275

Hey guys I heard this big rumor that AMD is planning on going to 400MHz FSB pretty soon - OMG!!!!! Sorry couldn't resist - that's what this entire thread sounds like to me. What's the point?

Yep, those'll be the Barton's, more info in the AMD CPU section under Pinky's sticky, :)

Whats the point of this POST!!!! I read an article and decided to post a link to so others could read and so I...well WE could all get some feed back on the subject content...Are you saying that the 800Mhz is a rumor or what...

I think it will be interesting to see what AMD will do to slow down or contend with the release of this chip...
