for those of you out there with nvidia cards, i have discovered an interesting program that tweaks windows. inside this program wich is freeware, i found a setting that will download a new tool for nvidia cards. that tool is an overclockers tool, you can overclock the memory and gpu. the name of the program is xteq systems setup. look for this setting under nvidia cards. it can automatically adjust one of the two overclocking settings if you wish. i found it most usefull.

glad to help, infinitwisdom.

NVMax with Coolbits will do the same thing, won't it?

there are a few programs that can do this - but will try to remember that one for future use...

I remember reading something about different software providing different levels of overclock stability...I thought it a bit silly as I would of imagined they all do the same thing, but im gonna try them all one day and see what results I get

power strip works allright for me...

i have had no luck with powerstrip. my default monitor is the nvidia card, not the voodoo3. being so , it wont make any changes to the voodoo. if i change the first and second setting in bios this might cure the problem long enough for me to go back into bios and set back to the agp being primary.

any suggestions? thanks, infinitwisdom/

infinitwisdom here, i did indeed succeed with powerstrip. i did also have to go into bios and change the order of priority (default) of my two cards in order to use powerstrip to overclock the voodoo3 card. interestingly, it has worked out better to LEAVE that card as my default card in bios, but use the nvidia card as my primary card in the settings department. this way my main desktop is still displayed on the tv, and stuff i cant read on the tv can be sent to monitor two run by the voodoo card. (it runs at 1024 x 768 resolution, the nvidia in tv mode only runs at 800 x 600). i have a measure of sucess, but it was more agrivation than i wanted.

last night i successfully flashed my bios, something i had never tried before! i have to give JCLW the credit there, as i did not know how to make a bootable floppy (who uses floppies these days, i mean really?). he showed me a website that would give me a download that would create my bootable floppy, then i took the steps to do the rest. i will be farting around with this new bios today. i hope i have some luck with it.

thanks, to all who have contributed to my success. i am running a pentium III 800E coppermine at 992 mhz, thanks to all the helpfull stuff i've read here.

infinitwisdom here,

i agree wholeheartedly, the people that have replied to my posts and private messages have all been wonderful. it is too bad that in life you don't find the kind of harmony you do here. there are a lot of folks out there willing to take advantage of people, here i have not found this to be true. i have read most of the forums, and found for the most part, nice people with intelligent responses. like you i too have learned a lot since joining this website. i already had good knowledge of hardware and os's and how to install them and make them work, sometimes even make them do things they shouldn't.

for example, if you want windows to help you stop popups without a pop up stopper type program, go into msconfig. click on the win.ini tab. then click on the settings tab. if you want to block ads it is apparent what you must change. here is a low down:

bBannerSound=false, change to true using the edit button.
bBlcockAdServers=false, change to true.
bBlockIEPopups=false, change to true.
bBlockFlahs=false, change to true.
bPopSound=false, change to true.

changing these settings will affect IE and wont allow most popups. another setting to change for this effort is to block windows messenger both in msconfig, and in windows. many popup ads use messenger to put their ads before you. if you have this service turned off those ads are completely blocked.

my highly technical knowlede of overclocking stuff for the most part came from this forum, two thumbs up for all members!!!!

What settings tab? I don't have any tabs in the WIN.INI section. XP Pro.

i am sorry about the grammar mistake. if you go into the win ini tab there is a box with a check mark in it called settings. click on the plus and open the tree. when you do you will see the stuff i described in the original post. just delete =false, and replace it with =true in the ones i designated for you. to do this you must highlight the one you wish to edit and click the edit button to the right. it's that simple. this will not get rid of all popups, but it does help a lot.

i hope this clears this up for you guys, sorry for my grammar, wisdom.

Weird, I don't have a check box with settings. You on XP Pro?

i don't know if coolbits does it or not, never even heard of it. xteq goes straight to the nvidia website and downloads a tiny patch from them that places another tab on the properties box when you right click the desktop. this tab will allow you to overclock the memory and the core. the first of the two it will do automatically if you so choose.

happy hunting, wisdom.

thats what coolbits is, the registry patch that gives you that tab.

I think I have to agree with this. I run Det 41.09 and since I installed Riva Tuner and set it to allow low level hardware OCing, my system tends to lock every so often.

Or would this be a problem with a PNY G4Ti4600 and the low level OC??
