as my computer was without internet access for 3 days during the past week, it made me wonder whether its possible to fold without internet access...
[big word] hypothetical [/big word] example:
computer 1 - internet access
computer 2 - no internet access
get protein from comp1, use floppy disk to move it to computer 2, when protein is done folding, copy the protein onto floppy disk, and move to computer 1 to send.... - then get a new protein, and repeat the process...
is this possible?

Hmmm....
I imagine it wouldn't.....unless there is a way to force it to send the finished data. But if it just sends any that it has finished in a certain folder than i imagine it would work...but...wouldnt you be better off just switching the line back and forth between the two comps??

How about getting 2 NIC's and letting the first computer (with internet acess) give the second one internet acess?
Or how about hook the second computer up when it finishes protiens?

I think you can, use the -send all command to senda the data.

-send all only sends queued work units. If you don't have an internet connection, that would be very difficult ;)

If he copied it to a disk, walk to his other PC and did it, I think it would work.

after F@H finishes a work unit the data it has is too big to fit on a cd. I think it was mentioned before that a CDRW would work though.
Best bet is to hook the two rigs together, and share the net connection. But, that depends on why the 2nd rig is w/o net....bad NIC? If not...setting this up is pretty easy.
I'm running 4 rigs with 4 cheap winmodems. They're just daisy-chained, and work just fine. get a cheap winmodem, and run a telephone line .
The way I hooked mine up from the wall is, wall> rig 1in rig1 out>rig2 in...

ok....... here is why the comp is without net....... its in a remote area of the house that is impossible to connect to the network.... and a wireless is way out of the reach...... also don't want a 50 foot cable through the house
now...... folding WITHOUT internet??????
it should be possible to move the wu data from comp to comp, while it folds, then move back to send.....
